I'm an undergraduate student at uconn and due to circumstances that have come up, I'll have to be transferring from the Storrs campus to a branch near my home for a semester or two. I have a difficult, contrasting double major requiring math and science classes along with humanities and business. So far I have a 3.7 gpa and am very involved on campus which bums me out even more that I'll have to miss a semester or two of the "real Uconn". Anyways, I've heard from some people that branch classes are a lot easier due to "less competition" and have heard from others that they are actually harder due to worse professors. These are some of my friends' opinions and obviously might not be entirely accurate. If any of you had experience with both branch classes as well as storrs campus classes then I'd love to hear your opinion on the comparative difficulty of classes such as Calc 1131 and 1132, Biol 1107, Accounting 2001, 2101, etc. If possible, I'd like to take 18+ credits both semesters in order to get all of my gen eds out of the way for my double major and obviously if the classes are slightly easier, then doing so would be less stressful. However, if the branch classes are hard/overwhelming I may have to change one of my majors in order to graduate on time as opposed to a semester late since in that case I would prefer to take the standard 15 credits.

Also my inquiry goes specifically for the Stamford Campus for the most part (though I would be willing to travel to waterbury or avery point if a class I needed isn’t available)

If you had any particular professors you liked at the Stamford campus, either particularly thought provoking or easy, then I’d appreciate info as well

Hey, Ive had experience at both Stamford and Storrs, and have the same gpa as you. My first year, I did at stamford and my second at storrs and I will be continue studying up at Storrs with a biology degree. 1107 with Kraemer I’d say is around, if not more difficult than the class at Storrs from what I hear. 1108 with Yarish is horrible, such a hard class (especially compared to Storrs) but I managed to get an A so it is do able. Lets just say I’m not his biggest fan…
If you have to take the chem sequence, they are definitely easier. (1127 and 1128) Math with Husu is easy, he curves a lot, and is willing to help his students. Physics 1201 and 1202 with Swanson, is a piece of cake. I can’t think of any other classes I took… but I’d say on average Storrs is a little harder than stamford depending on the course.

I’m not sure about harder/easier. How about better? Some years back, I spent a year at a liberal arts college, then a year at Avery Point, then two years at Storrs. I was able to take a lot of intro level classes at AP that fulfilled requirements. All classes less than 25 students, some with less than 15, much more attention from faculty, I was actually able to get to know my professors. The same classes had well over 100 students at the time at Storrs. When I got to Storrs, I felt much better prepared for what upper level classes required, more reading, writing and discussion, than the students who had been at Storrs for 2 years. I went to Storrs with about a B+ average, essentially got straight A’s when I was there, my gpa the two years there was a 3.8 or 3.9.
