@RonnieD I think the merit scholarship will show up online eventually with the financial aid awards.
@cane23 I am a transfer student from a CC in state.
My S received letter of admission today. No mention of scholarship in the letter. Online for 2016 to 2017 it says access to aid is unavailable. Does that mean he didn’t receive any merit? It looks like people are being notified of merit with their congratulations letters and not separately.
I think it means no merit but the need based aid will come out later and be available at student center . None of us have the financial aid up yet
@motortrend I’m not sure we qualify for aid. He had a 3.7 GPA, 1920 SAT, 30 ACT currently taking 3 APs. Was hoping for merit as we are OOS. I’ll call admissions in the morning.
Hi does anyone know when we will get the postal official decision letter? I applied to the Special Program in Medicine and the admission staff told me that the decision for SPiM can only be viewed on the letter.
@DonnaEv What was his SAT out of 1600? Merit aid is usually given for 1400+.
@crazylegs12 no I think combined English and math were 1290.
Received a letter today in California. Scholarship info included.
@DonnaEv his stats are still very good though. I"m surprised he wouldnt get any merit. I apologize that I haven’t looked back at all of the posts so maybe you already answered this already but what was his major? A few majors are a lot more competitive.
@motortrend Engineering. Has gotten some great scholarship offers and honors programs at other schools. Was hoping the same for UConn which is an out of state top choice.
@DonnaEv I understand. That is a tough major but within engineering did he pick a certain discipline? I’m engineering too. His stats are good so I’d think for OOS he would get something. Like you said, can’t hurt to call and make sure that they didn’t make a mistake. His stats are pretty close to mine but I know they look at the rigor of schedule too. It’s so subjective and hard to figure out their process. I hope they made a mistake and he is getting merit after all. Good luck and let us know if he makes out OK.
@DonnaEv - your son’s stats were very much in line with my daughter’s, so I too am surprised he did not receive any merit aid at all. The major may have something to do with it. The level of stats for engineering majors can be even higher than your son’s very good stats. My daughter would major in Environmental Science or Marine Science - majors which are far less common for UConn. Good luck to your son.
Im a little confused about scholarships. I have a 3.9 gpa, 2280 SAT and tons of extra curriculars. Im taking 5 AP’s this year and I took 3 last year. I haven’t gotten any merit at all. Am I missing something?
you had to apply by December 1st to be considered for merit aid
My S applied to all of his colleges in late October…
I think you also needed to be in the top 10% of your class for merit but I could be wrong
I’m not entirely sure you needed to be in the top 10 %, although my school does not do rankings, I am confident I am nowhere near the top 10%, yet I got 15000$. Also, my M+R SAT was 1320, so I really have no idea what their criteria are.
I’m sure he is, but he’s in a top private high school that doesn’t rank. In the end for us it all comes down to money and he has a lot of good choices. Wherever he goes he will do well.
@DonnaEv Were you able to reach the admissions rep for your son’s school? Since some students offered $ may be letting UCONN know they’ve decided to go to another school, perhaps some $ will free up. Maybe if you share what the others offered they will consider matching? I am not sure on any of that, but it seems like your S really wants UCONN, so I hope calling helps. Good Luck and keep us posted!
