Hi, which is the best dorm in UCONN for freshman (I will be taking BS Stats and Math) and what is the nearest cafeteria? Does the dorm have A/C? and I believe the laundry is free (meaning included in the rent) - Am I right?
My son was in Northwest for his 1st 2 years at UCONN. Lots of freshman are there. Northwest’s dining hall is right there and is considered to have good food. Rooms are doubles and there is no AC. He was in the Engineering House and it was located in Northwest (now it it is located in the newest dorm on campus, NextGen Residence Hall. Lots of STEM majors in this new dorm.)
NextGen Residence Hall is only for Learning Communities now. (Engineering house, Women in Science, Engineering and Math, Ecohouse, etc.) Just because your major is Engineering or Mathematical doesn’t mean you will be in NextGen Hall. Only if you sign up for a Learning Community.
There are also many freshman in North which also has a dining hall in the building and is located right next to Northwest.
A lot of freshman end up in Towers, which is slightly further from the campus as it is essentially in back of North. Has its own dining commons. My D is moving to North for next year.
For freshmen, I’d recommend Northwest or Towers. Both have their own dining halls, a ton of freshman, though Towers is a bit further away from campus.
