Anyone know anything good, bad, or indifferent about the UCONN vocal performance dept.?

We glanced at it as our instate flagship, felt the instrumental program lacked adequate peer quality for son and a couple of his friends of equal talent. Music ed is pretty strong.

However please don't let this comment color your judgement for vocal performance. I don't have the level of knowledge, or anecdotal evidence to share.

Thanks, V-Dad. I've been trying to get a read for someone in the program, and also on the theater dept. there - NO answers. Odd, since people are strikingly informed on pretty much every other school!

If all else fails, a couple of options: try pm'ing lorelei45, as she may have info/contacts about the vocal program. soozievt from the music theater forum may also be a potential source of info about theater aspects.

Good luck.

We know two graduates of the vocal performance program at UConn. However, I will say that both enrolled when a different director was conducting the choirs there. One is now in nursing school and the other is a working as a professional choral person. Both liked their experiences. One wished he had been closer to a city and the other really didn't mind. At the time, they had some relationship with the Met. Don't know whether that still exists or not.
