Just looking for some honest feedback from anyone who has been accepted into the honors program before…

Do I stand an ok chance to get into the honors program if my SAT is low (1340 CR&M, 2080 total)

I have a great GPA (98% avg. in mostly honors/AP classes)
Ranked 1/244
Out-of-State
Major = actuarial science
decent EC’s, nothing spectacular though
essay was pretty good
I’ve already applied to the school, just anxiously awaiting to see if I get accepted to the honors program
Oh yeah, and does the decision for honors come with the decision to the University itself (along with merit aid)?

SHS 26 ACT is not realistic at all… I would use SAT if it is higher… seems for Honors test scores may trump GPA… but they are also looking for significant ECs and leadership …

Good Luck… It truly is one of the BEST honors programs in the country !

SAM23 They love valedictorians - good for marketing the program … out of state is good too , Make sure you visit and send dept chair an e-mail expressing interest in their dept…

most likely u you are in …

the honors, aid and acceptance all come in together…

meant to reply to STARLIGHT7 not SHS … sorry …

thanks cckerry- glad to see that I stand a good chance despite the sub-par SAT score. I visited the school over the summer (beautiful campus) and met with the head of the actuary science program. Great program at UConn. Hope to hear back soon!!

They are pretty firm on 1400 for Honors College. My son had great stats; top 5%, #14/319, SAT 1380, writing 720,GPA 4.19 (weighted), 7 AP’S, OOS and did not get into the honors college but did receive their top merit scholarship. I am told by a friend whose daughter is attending that you can apply to the Honors College at a later time, but have not had this confirmed by the school. Personally, if you are planning on attending graduate school, being part of the Honors College is beneficial.

As far as I know, the 1400 isn’t an exact ‘requirement’. I hope my other credentials will outweigh my SAT score. And yes, you are correct in that you can apply later, but it’d be rather pointless for me to apply later since I don’t plan on going to graduate school. Hopefully I’ll find out soon!!

As far as I know, the 1400 is a very strict requirement. My friend with a 1390, 4.0, top 5%, sports, in-state, and science research was not admitted. His mother called the admissions office and they told her it was because he did not have a 1400. I on the other hand, with similar stats, but a 1400, got in.

Just found out today I was accepted (and to the honors program as well!). So I guess you can still get in with a SAT score that’s a little below 1400, however I have a high GPA in mostly honors/AP classes and am ranked 1st in class, so that probably saved me, lol.

If you guys want some comparison… Honors program isn’t just based on your SAT/GPA/Rank. I think essays and character can be a deciding factor considering I was invited as an instate with a 1400 M/CR SAT, 3.56 GPA, and ranked 19th in the class out of 103. Further, I guess my school is very difficult in comparison to many in the area and I have taken all AP/honors but I don’t think my stats measure up to many of you on here, so it must’ve been ECs and essays.
