UConn Honors vs. Northeastern

Hi everyone, I know I won't get many impartial answers on the UConn forum lol but I was hoping for some information from honors program students. I got into NEU (non-honors) and UConn honors (business management major in both)and I'm wondering if the honors program is good enough to pass over on NEU. I LOVE the school spirit and party scene at uconn (much better than Northeastern's) but I'm worried that it won't set me up as well for a career as NEU. I'm also worried that uconn isn't as prestigious as NEU and that I'll be getting the same brand name education as some of my classmates that had SATs almost 1000 points lower than mine. So is the honors program worth it? Uconn would also be more expensive for me. I apologize for the wall of text and I would really appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

I love them both. I wouldn’t worry about the classmates with lower SAT scores because you will be in the honors program. My daughter got into these two same schools, and if NE was less expensive she would have attended. We looked at the UCONN business program and liked it, I think it will be a tough decision for you, but ultimately, you should be proud of the two admittances. Good luck to you, good times are ahead!

I have a D who went to NEU and a S heading to UCONN in the fall. Both are amazing schools and both are on the rise in popularity and selectivity. I really don’t think you can lose. From a business standpoint it is hard to beat NEU and the CO-OP program and you have an active resume when you graduate. I wouldn’t think twice about honors vs non honors there. My D missed honors because of SAT scores but did better in her classes than her “honors” classmates. I hear UCONN alumni are very active and networking thru them is an asset and a good internship goes on your resume as well. I will tell you that no employer is going to ask you what your SAT scores were. It is self motivation that counts anywhere. Go where it feels right not only academically but in the big picture. My S loves the atmosphere at UCONN and it is a perfect fit for him. My D would not have enjoyed UCONN. NEU was much more her style. Good luck, You are in a win-win situation.

We have the same decision to make: NEU vs. UConn Honors. In our case, NEU is almost double the cost of attendance. My son loves the idea of NEU, but is it twice as good? We can afford both, but just because you ‘can’ doesn’t mean you ‘should.’

Good luck to you, I agree with everyone that they’re both great schools. My daughter is in the same boat. She was admitted to honors program at UCONN and EA non-honors to NEU. NEU offered Merit but will still be 10,000 more per year than UCONN. We unfortunately do not qualify for so in state tuition is hard to pass up. She was also just offered a Dean scholarship at Brandeis in their Dean’s Scholar program. NEU has been her first choice so we’re weighing the options of paying the extra money. We’ll be attending welcome day at UCONN on the 12th including the honors presentation so she probably will decide shortly after. Good luck to you as again, I’m sure uou will thrive in either scenario.

I’ve decided on Uconn Honors because it’s cheapest and it seems like a decent fit. Sooo class of 2018? (even though I am graduating in 3 hopefully)
