Uconn maritime studies

ok, son was just admitted to UConn off waitlist to Maritime studies (he's first choice is civil engineering, did not get in)
He was accepted at Clemson university college of engineering as well as clarkson. He wants to stay local, go to uconn and then transfer into civil - (i don't think it is that easy to trasnfer ) - what do you do with a maritime studies degree? any advice? Thanks.

The UConn Maritime Studies website lists a number of possibilities:
[Maritime Studies | UConn | Academic Programs](http://www.maritimestudies.uconn.edu/Academic_Programs/academic_programs.html)

It would make a great double major combination with a number of fields, including international studies and business. There are only a handful schools that offer this field as a major or minor, including Delaware, Rhode Island, Northeastern, and U Miami.

If he wants to go into engineering, however, he should go to Clemson or Clarkson. If you look at the various tracks for the UConn Maritime Studies major, primarily they are focused on social science fields; there is no engineering pathway. I suppose if he took the engineering math and science pre-requisite courses (e.g., physics, calculus) along with his other first year courses, he might be able to transfer into engineering somewhere.
