UCONN OR AMERICAN UNIVERSITY

I am between Uconn and American and I want to major in bio on a premed track. Which school would be my best bet to potentially get into med school?

Just want to add that I don’t know if I can handle a big school with huge classes but I’ve been accepted into the Student Support Services so I guess that will help me with the sizing and in terms of getting help? I have also been accepted into the pre-kinesiology program but I am not actually accepted until sophomore year and chances of getting in then are 1 to 2. At American classes are smaller the school is smaller but I don’t know much about the premed program. HELP

How much would each cost?
What’s your parents’ budget?

Med schools only care about GPA (+“core” or “science” GPA) + MCAT scores; then, volunteering/professional/research experience and letters of recommendation.

You don’t need to major in bio to be premed. Biology is one of the majors with the weakest track records for jobs and salaries upon graduation. Too many premeds don’t get into any med school while most jobs in biology require a Master’s or a PHD. Try to take the core premed classes* and to have an “intersting” major like Health policy and management, or a critical language (like Hindi, Chinese, Arabic…) If at AU, any critical language major is likely to find a job fairly easily since these languages are in such demand in DC… and top med schools actually like it if you can speak one of these languages.

*2 semesters each of English, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Physics plus 1 semester each of psychology, sociology, biochemistry, diversity-focused class, plus (recommended) neuroscience/cognitive science or similar and, for top med schools, fluency in a language spoken by immigrant groups or ethnic/cultural groups in the US.
