I’ve narrowed down my decisions to these two schools. I am going into computer science and want to eventually be a software developer.
UConn (Storrs) would be the less expensive of the two (I’m from Connecticut). I received a financial aid package which translates to a bit over half of the total cost in grants and scholarships (17k out of roughly 30k), though I am still waiting on outside grants and scholarships that would be CT-exclusive. However, while I did get into the School of Engineering, I was given Electrical Engineering as my major rather than Computer Science. I recently contacted admissions and apparently it would be possible to switch into my desired program, but I don’t exactly like not having a guarantee. But, I do really like the campus and have many family members who attended before me.
BU, on the other hand, only offered me 40k (50k with loans, no merit aid, out of 65k) in financial aid, so it would be rather costly for me. However, I really like the Boston area and was accepted into their computer science program, unlike with UConn. I am also under the impression that BU is a stronger school than UConn and commands a lot more respect on a diploma.
I’m conflicted whether to settle for UConn or try and work out something financially for BU. I really like the atmosphere of both schools, so it is the strength of their computer science programs that is the x-factor here. Is BU’s heavy price tag really worth it in the end? How much bang for your buck do you get with UConn?
Thanks!
