Uconn or hofstra

Paid deposit for Hofstra and just got accepted off of the wait list for Uconn. Where should she go?

UConn … unless grass and trees make her break out.

Dairy Bar=Ice Cream…

UConn, as long as she realizes that it’s in the middle of nowhere.

Has she visited both? Huge differences. UCONN is in the middle of nowhere and has cows, major turn off for my S.

Hofstra, like many schools, is next to two real bad neighborhoods. One being Hempstead and the other Uniondale. If you visit, they’ll bring you in the other way. There are some very wealthy nabes nearby as well. The beach is only 15 minutes away and NYC is a 35 minute train ride away. Having been to both campuses and living not far from Hofstra I can say that Storrs has the better college feel.

If academic quality is a factor at all…UConn.

Hofstra has had some serious issues with treating its students as cash cows to be milked and being populated by well-off academically mediocre Long Islanders/NYC locals who have issues even getting admitted to mid-level SUNYs and “who must attend a private school”.

On the other hand, UConn has respectable academics and great school spirit.

You should also find out about what the kids do on weekends. My guess is that Hofstra may be a suitcase school, while UConn probably is not.
