Uconn or Penn State Transfer Spring 2016

Hi! I am admitted to both PSU and UConn for the spring 2016 semester as a transfer student. I am a sophomore. I am a political science major. I have visited both schools, however I am still very confused on what school to pick. I am big on sports and both schools offer great athletic events. I am out of state at both schools so tuition is not an issue because these schools are relatively the same for OOS. I like to have fun and go to parties and school events, I would say I am pretty outgoing, and I like being involved. So I guess you can say I am looking for an active campus, I don’t like to be bored! I am wondering what school would be a better fit for me, and what school has a better reputation, especially for poly sci? Also what school is better for transfer students/ transfer friendly? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

I only have experience with PSU, so here’s an incredibly one-sided opinion: Penn State is certainly an active campus and sounds like a good fit for someone with a lot of school spirit. It’s also quite transfer-friendly, as many students follow the 2+2 plan and transfer from branch campuses to main after two years.

UCONN is in snowy ugly Connecticut. Penn State btw is beautiful!

Happy Valley is also pretty damn snowy. In the last month of school it felt like I was coming out of hibernation, lol.

It doesn’t snow like Central NY, bud.

Okay, bud.

Thanks for your help guys! Yeah I think I’m going to go with PSU! I’m from NY too and yeah winters are pretty bad!

Enjoy your stay in PSU! It’s great over there. I was speechless when I visited the campus. There’s always something to do

Thank you! Yeah it is breathtaking for sure!

What was your gpa? Just curious

Just a point of view before you toss away UConn - it doesn’t snow like upstate NY (I have worked and lived in upstate and PA and I have close family that has attended both PSU and UConn). PSU is twice the size of UConn. UConn has more classes of a smaller size. At PSU 65% of students live off campus vs. 30% at UConn. UConn is an incredibly beautiful and active campus with over 500 clubs. Depending on your major, UConn is becoming one of the most progressive public universities that is on the forefront of significant research advances in many disciplines, including creativity, innovation and engineering just to mention a few. Make sure you understand what’s important to you before you decide that weather is key factor (and make sure your weather stats are correct.

Penn state has 800 clubs, and not sure where you got that information that UCONN doesn’t get a lot of snow.
