I was accepted to both the University of Connecticut and St. John's University. My financial aid packages are nearly identical for both. At St. John's I have a total of about $31,000 in grants and scholarships and about $23,000 in loans. At UCONN I have about $22,000 in grants and about $22,000 in loans. I already paid an admissions deposit for UCONN because I didn't want to lose my spot in case I decided to go there. I still have other fees to pay, however. St. John's is closer to home, which is a good thing for emergencies. I'm really stumped and don't know which to choose. Can anyone provide some help?

Are the loans for just one year or all four? If you’re determined to spend that much on college, go to the one you really want. Unless you have some per-existing condition that might cause you emergencies, I wouldn’t worry about it. If it’s a real life threatening emergency, your parents won’t be there anyway unless they just happen to be with you.

UConn is a much better school. However, if those loans are for each year, then unless your parents will be paying them off for you, neither school is remotely affordable.
