Hi everyone. I am an international student from India.
I have got admission in all 3, i would like to know your opinion on all the 3 universities, i will major in business(Finance), so information on each of the school's business program will be useful.
A major thing that concerns me is on campus jobs and placements after graduation.

Cost of attendance -- Binghamton - $28600
Penn state - $43000
Uconn - $42000

That means over 4 years, penn state n uconn are approx $52000 more than Binghamton, are they worth it? Right now, i am inclined towards Binghamton.

Please pals, shed every piece of info you can.

Take UConn out of the picture- It’s not that comparable.

PSU is MUCH larger than Binghamton and is known for sports… Honestly, not something that is worth it.

SOM is one of the best undergrad business schools for the money. PSU’s reputation doesn’t equal the amount of money that you will spend for it. Binghamton is worth the deal.

UCONN is easily comparable and many will tell you far superior… PLUS school sopirit is incredible i.e. they just won NCAA B-ball Final 4 , it has a nicer campus and remember Binghamton is the city in NY with the most # of overcast days… a bit deary they tell me …

lastly PSU ranks high among corporate recruiters and has a GREAT business internship program especially for Finance majors… it takes 5 years but you have a much better chance of landing a great job … and you only pay tuition for 4 and get paid for 1 year !

UConn definitely has the school spirit, but if you are the type that the school spirit thing gets old, you have nothing else, it’s in the middle of nowhere I hear. I have friends whose kids are there - one is graduating and said she loved UConn but if she could do it again would choose a school near a city. As for weather, another friend’s son asked for a full face ski mask for Christmas. It gets so cold and the way the buildings are set up, the wind just whips through the campus. That can be rough when you’re trying to get around such a big campus (but he loves it there).

My D is deciding between Binghamton, UConn, and Mary Washington in Va. Haven’t seen UConn yet, going Tuesday, and just saw Ithaca College again and it lit some sparks of interest - further complicating the decision process!

Bottom line, I think all 3 schools that you are considering will set you up for a great future. You just have to take advanyage of the opportunies.

Keep in mind PSU requires a 3.5 GPA in your first 3 semesters to even get into the finance major - and that will likely increase due to high interest and budget issues. Binghamton is your best bet, especially considering how much you will save.

cckerry- Also what do you mean you get paid for one year? I just went looking at PSU’s Business school website (Smeal) and there is no program that gives you a guaranteed internship or paid tuition. It’s just like any other internship/career services center- the student seeks out and applies for internships (which they can search for on a school database) which may be paid or unpaid.

I will reiterate it again, Binghamton is the best deal- a great business school at an extremely affordable price.

I got my RIT admission letter today, they are offering me $10K scholarship for every year, that means it comes down to approx $33K for a year which is still $6K more than Binghamton.

Does anyone know how well is RIT’s reputation as compared to Binghamton, specially for the Business program.

You will have to talk to Binghamton SOM about whether internationals can get paid internships in the US. I think that you can’t get a paid job when you are in the US on an education visa.

Binghamton’s SOM is ranked about 12th for publics and about 38th overall. You can earn a BS/MBA at SOM for the cost of undergraduate at PSU.

Binghamton is a good school. If you don’t live in New York its a very easy school to gain admission. In my sons class in CT the lowest part of his class received admission to Binghamton while being turned down for Uconn. If you are a good student and have no social life I think Binghamton is for you. My daughter loves UCONN, she goes to all the basketball (boys and girls) and the football games (in the cold of Hartford). Penn State is very good, but for business University of Maryland at College park would be the best choice. Good luck

You will need to formally declare a major when you get to Bing- your admission is in to the school (SOM in this case) only, not a particular major. So there’s plenty of time to pick.

Justwaiting1, What does your daughter do when there’s no football or basketball? Is she involved in other clubs/activities there? I’m asking because my D is trying to decide between Binghamton, UConn, and Ithaca (Mary Washington is off the list now).
We visited all 3 and my D’s big concern for UConn is the lack of a city (or anything for that matter).
Binghamton doesn’t have the school spirit UConn has but at least you can venture off campus to do something different. Same for Ithaca.
Any insight would be helpful, it’s getting down to the wire!
