The biggest merit scholarship that I saw last year was $22000 OOS.
When I check my application status it says “Information is pending, please check back in 24 hours” does anybody know what that means?
Mine doesn’t even say that… it still says “application completed on… check frequently etc.”
My decision is posted on the portal.
My D has not been notified yet. She is a strong student 1400 SAT, 3.9U, 4.3W but is undeclared major and this seems to be working against her to some degree with other colleges (deferred UVA, accepted UMass Amherst but no Honors college invite and they told her GC that worked against her as they needed excuses to weed out too many qualified applicants)… and no merit offered either - the competition this year is insane! If rejected from J on. I would be interested to see if other undeclared students get the same treatment…
@britlass I personally know a lot of people who’ve applied to both UConn and UMass and in my opinion, the program you apply for greatly impacts whether or not you get in, especially for UConn…For example, I got into the environmental science program at UConn with much lower stats than one of my friends who got flat out denied for Biological Sciences. Another friend who had the same GPA as me and a SAT score that was 20 points higher and applied undecided got denied as well. Did your daughter apply undecided in a certain program (undecided in the business school, for example)?
For UMass-A, I was also told by my GC that applying undecided for the business school would hurt more than help me in terms of aid and honors college because, as you stated, they want to make sure they have a somewhat proportionate number of kids in different disciples in the honors college (like not all kids going into science who happen to have the highest entering stats out of the applicant pool). Completely unrelated, but are you aware that you have to pay more to be in the honors college at UMass? That kind of put me off on it. Best of luck to your daughter!
She just found out she got in to UConn Storrs! Yay!! Anyone know how to find out if any merit offered as she is OOS? She didn’t see anything. If nothing offered she will likely go to UMass…not worth the extra $$$ for UConn over UMass-A as from MA Ciara2121 what you said about undeclared and honors college makes total sense
She got in to ACES
D got in to UConn Storrs ACES, we were looking in the wrong place - her Net ID page, we eventually found the portal. LOL
@britlass is there a link for a scholarship disclosure agreement ?
@cleoforshort where did you find it??? Maybe we are looking in wrong place too
LlParent101 she said she didn’t see a link for scholarships
@britlass I’m not too sure about the merit scholarships for ACES. The OOS students we knew last year had a link for the scholarship disclosure in the student center but they were not in ACES. Hopefully strong students like your daughter who weren’t accepted into their major but were put in ACES can still get scholarships, especially if they are OOS. I hope she does get something.
@britlass … my son was admitted to UMASS as undeclared in the natural sciences exploratory track and got a
10,000/year merit scholarship. No invite to honors program. SAT 1310 and Weighted GPA 3.8 and he was also admitted to UCONN as undecided exploratory. We are CT residents. I’m sorry for you what you are going through…your daughter is clearly qualified… It’s impossible to tell what sways a college’s decision.
@britlass … just saw she got in to UCONN… Congratulations. Merit will be come out in a letter next week, I think.
Wish she had declared a major as I didn’t realize it works against her as far as merit awards go. Not paying 50K to go to Uconn - we’ll wait and see
I think she will get merit at UConn because she is out of state and the reason she didn’t at UMASS is because she is in state. I think the reverse will happen to my son.
I am in state and received my admission decision yesterday. I got in, but am still waiting for my admissions letter in the mail. I was notified on the applicant link.
The kids we knew last year from out of state received more from UCONN than UMASS by a few thousand but it’s so subjective that you can’t predict the amount.
