UConn vs UAB vs UGA

We are in GA and have twins. Any thoughts on UConn Vs UAB and UGA for Premed?

Go to UGA and save money for med school. Take advantage of Hope and Zell.

Med school is expensive. Go to an affordable undergrad school.

If your family is willing and able to afford four years of undergrad plus four years of medical school for each of your twins, the students should enroll where they feel most comfortable and have the best fit.

If that is not the case, however, finances becomes of great importance. All three are fine universities and anyone with a great GPA and MCAT score is likely to be accepted to medical school (and I don’t think one of these universities would be that much more impressive to med school admissions teams than the others). Is there a significant financial difference between the options? That matters.

Have your students been admitted to a special program (honors, or research opportunity, or…) at one of the colleges but not at the others? Sometimes those programs will have nice perks including special dorms, priority registration, etc. That may sway an opinion, but probably only if the costs are in the same ballpark. I don’t think an honors program at one is worth $20k/year more than non-honors at a different one of these colleges.

For universities that are in the same, low ballpark, choose the place that has the best fit. If there’s only one option that is significantly lower, unless there is a glaring problem with the university and fit (in which case an application to it should have been avoided), go to the lowest cost option.

Any will be fine for pre-med. Pick the least expensive option unless you are independently wealthy. Medical school will cost probably half a million dollars by the time your kids enroll. Financial aid is loans, loans and more loans.

UGA is likely the least costly of these options. Although with scholarships…UAB could be as well.

Students can take the courses required for medical school applicants at almost any college (arts conservatories excluded).

I have to ask…was weather a consideration? I live in CT…and the weather here is very different than AL or GA!

My first reaction was UAB since it is well known for medicine & pre-med, but if COA is a significant concern, then cost may dictate your choice.

Pick a place which doesn’t practice grade deflation. Nice to have a medical school attached, of course.

Which is less expensive…and do you want to be at a huge campus in its own world, an hour from Atlanta…or in the heart of the city.

Also, did you check pre-advising at each? See which you’re more comfortable with, etc.
