I was admitted to both schools for sports management, meanwhile UConn offers me more money from financial aid but the cost of UMass is still less. I have been thinking about double majoring in some sort of business as well. Please give me some insiders for which school will give me a better education, better living environment or a better chance of landing jobs after graduation. Which school is ranked higher and what not, which school has a better prestige.

UMass definitely has a better sports management program but I would say that UConn is prestigious enough that you can land a job after graduation easily. Also, if you decide not to pursue sports management, UConn is more prestigious than UMass. In addition, I haven’t heard many good things about the social life at UMass and we here in Massachusetts are dealing with budget cuts so UMass will definitely be affected.

Personally, I would go to UConn.

On a prestige level, both schools are the flagship university of their respective public college systems, so they are similar in that regard. Every state is having some budget issues, so that should not be a deciding factor. UMass does have an especially well-regarded sports management program, a good business school, and it would be cheaper for you, so I would recommend UMass over UConn. UMass has a lot of new suite-style dorms in the sedate and scenic north/northeast sections of the campus where a lot of math and science majors reside. You might want to gravitate in that direction.

thank you very much guys for this information. What about the towns itself? I heard amherst is a great college town as oppose to Storrs being really boring at times.

the question is, are you going to be able to afford UConn even with financial aid (doesn’t cause you to go into debt after college) because if you can’t afford UConn, UMass then becomes the best option.

Amherst is definitely a great college town since there are 4 other colleges nearby. I have a friend going to UConn and it seems that the students keep themselves pretty busy with activities and by having a division I-A football and basketball team.

I live in NY so both schools is going to get me in debt. UConn is only about 4000 more each year, so money isn’t my biggest concern, is more about the life at the college and after.

in that case, I would go to UMass, save the $16,000.
