UConn Waitlist...

So I specifically made an account on this site just so that I could vent about how screwed up the admissions office is at UConn. I applied to the school on December 26th, and finally received a response from my state university in mid-April, saying that I was waitlisted.

1300 on my SAT's
12th in my class
Rower for 4 years
All Honors and AP Courses
5 on 2 AP Exams
Resident of Connecticut
Father and other relatives on the Alumni Committee
Accepted to GWU, BU, Syracuse, UMiami, and Fordham...

what...the...hell.

So, I know /nothing/ about UConn. But I SO relate and sympathize. I got spring at my state flagship, the University of Maryland, College Park while a bunch of not-as-qualified people got in from my school (and got in to the scholars program, etc). and my entire family went there. what? cool.

But, 2 and half-ish months later, I’m actually kind of happy it happened because UMCP is definitely not the right school for me.

anyways, I’m sorry! Applying to college is awful. BUT at least got into some really good schools!

wasn’t the deadline december 1st ish? i think after that, they give admissions depending on space-availability

Haha, welcome to the club. I am not a fan of those people.

3.75 UW GPA
1370 and 2070 on SATs
15/190 Class Rank
Found and president of two of the largest clubs in my school
took classes at Wesleyan Univesity

I applied December 29th, 2008, and I too did not receive a letter until mid-April of last year saying I was waitlisted. I am going to GW now and very happy with my decision.

Sorry about getting WL, but this has been a really tough year to get into UConn. There are so many, many students who can’t afford a private school and UConn is a great option in comparison. Their deadlines are also notoriously rigorous: since they have rolling decisions, you’ve GOT to apply early. And Dec 26th is quite late. Most kids who didn’t get into their ED choice also applied to UConn by 12/15-ish.

It’s surprising they didn’t let you know of their decision until mid-April. I wonder if they misplaced your application and by the time they found it, could only offer WL. If you’re serious about wanting to go there be sure to tell them, but don’t sound like you’re threatening them (or they owe you) because they made a mistake.

This happens every year. I posted a warning for people like the OP http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-connecticut/783053-uconn-application-deadline-dec-1-a.html

UConn usually waitlists those who submit after the deadline but are qualified.
