UCONN's Program

Would you guys go here if accepted?

Yes because I love being in the hills in the middle of nowhere. (Seriously) Lots of people don't like this about UCONN, because the main campus is honeslty in the middle of nowhere. Its a good place if you like being outside of the hustle and bustle of city life. The med school is in Farmington, and its also nice there, but its pretty rural.

What other schools/programs are you guys considering then? And where does this program stand?

Yeah, I would definitely consider going to UConn's program if accepted - instate tuition rates are also a plus. I just interviewed for UConn on Tuesday...it's all waiting now!

What type of stats are they looking for?

Probably the same as most medical program, although possibly slightly lower, as UConn has lest prestige (it's a fairly new program, only 3-4 years old) than some other well-established ones.

They take fewer ppl though, their pool is really solid though. Not a big name program but that is just cuz it's new.

Yeah, they take about 10, but often less.

bigndude, where in New Haven County do you live. I grew up and lived in Guilford for 13 years, now im in Phoenix.

I just got accepted to UConn! found out via email...woo hoo!

lobsta, i'm from woodbridge. Its right on the outskirts of new haven.

Just wanted to know...anybody else get in?

T-star, what were your stats? and did you have any particular experiences that helped, do you think?

So how many people got in? During your interviews did you hear anything about the classes before us like how one only had 3 people or something?

So far, I think I'm the only person on CC (this thread, at least) who has been accepted to UConn. They take about 10 though...so there are others out there. I think the yield rate for the program is fairly low. I know the first year of the program they only took five people, and since then, four have switched out of it (one to communications, one to pre-law, one wasn't interested anymore, etc.). Not too many stick with it at UConn, somehow...

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this board but I got into UCONN's program too:-) I also got into programs at Penn State, Temple, and Drexel, but have no idea where to go! I live in NJ, so I pay out of state tuition for UCONN, Penn State, and Temple. Penn State will cost $32,000/year and no scholly, UCONN I get half tuition, Temple is giving me $10,000/year, and Drexel is giving me $20,000. Does anyone have any advice! Thanks...this is driving me crazy!

Good luck with your choice! Definitely look at the quality of the medical schools, as well as the undergrad. I think UConn undergrad might be better than Temple...though I'm not sure about med. Is Penn State accelerated?
