UCR acceptance... Didn't even apply

Just wondering if a lot of you guys were accepted to riverside when you didn't apply there...

My first choice right now is UCI...(still waiting)

I applied to SD and LA as well, but I was wondering if I got accepted to Riverside because Irvine, SD, and LA didn't want me. I know that the my application was sent to other UCs for them to review it, but I'm afraid that it's because the schools that I applied to aren't going to accept me for this fall.

Here are my current stats:

Current GPA: 2.97
Major Applied: Business Economics, Economics
*I know it's an impacted major... which is why I'm more paranoid and worried

My last semester grades totally dropped my GPA. (I failed calc 2) Would they consider the fact that I'm retaking it right now, because I will be able to replace the F with the passing grade. I'm actually taking 19 units (6 classes) right now, and I'm doing pretty good so far, but I read that spring grades don't really matter.

If I end up raising my gpa this semester, and I get rejected right now, will I be able to appeal (specifically to Irvine, my #1 choice) and actually have a chance of getting accepted?

Please help....

riverside probably made a mistake; you shouldn’t be getting an acceptance if you didn’t apply.

you can email the UC’s to let them know you’re retaking it [if you didn’t put it on your application update]
and go for the appeal!

good luckkk

wait… you did NOT send your application to Riverside, but somehow got an acceptance from them?

wha?

Hm… Well the first e-mail i got stated:

Dear ___,
I am delighted that you have applied for admission to the University of California. As you await information on campus admissions decisions, I am writing to let you know that this year the University will continue an effort that has proved to be of interest to many of our applicants in recent years. While your application is being reviewed by the campuses you have applied to, other campuses within the UC system will be looking at your record, too. They may get in touch with you directly to tell you about degree programs they offer that could be a good fit, given the interests and talents you described in your application.

Don’t worry – this doesn’t mean that you aren’t being considered by the UC campuses you chose. We just want to make sure that if we see an additional opportunity for you at another UC campus, you will know about it and can make an informed decision about all of your UC options.

Once our campuses make their admission decisions, they will notify you. We expect all decisions to be completed by April 30. No matter which UC campus you choose to attend, you will have immediate opportunities to learn from internationally respected faculty and bright, capable students from around the world. At your doorstep will be a vibrant social, cultural, athletic and artistic community, as well as a range of support services to help you succeed.

Thank you for considering the University of California, and I wish you the best of luck in attaining your educational goals.

Sincerely yours,

Susan A. Wilbur, Ph.D.
Director of Undergraduate Admissions

Then I got another email (this time from riverside)

** i actually did add riverside on my fafsa, and emailed riverside to accept the admission just in case and received a response saying congratulation… etc.

I REALLY WANT TO GO TO IRVINE THOUGH… I’m GOING NUTS!

i think you received these emails because you’re such a borderline applicant…

not to be discouraging, but <3.0 for econ is pretty damn low.
SD is a reach, LA is a big reach… even for UCI, you haven’t quite hit par.

i think it’s cool that they want to make sure, if worst comes to worst (and i hope, in your case, it won’t), that you won’t be stuck without a college come fall.

let us know what happens with the rest of them.
good luck.

i got accepted to riverside as a freshman also… and i never applied so.

^

I’m talking about acceptance as a transfer student (junior) not as a first year (freshman)

UCR still has room for next year (still accepting applications), so other UCs that you all applied to gave your information to UCR. This does not in any way affect you admission for any other school that you did apply to.

There’s a similar thread around, but don’t worry about it! [:

The emails are pretty damn self-explanatory. o.O

Everyone gets into either UCM or UCR. It’s part of the agreement of “we will guarantee a UC education to everyone”. Everyone gets into “one UC”; that one UC being UCR or UCM.

My roommate never applied to UCR and also got accepted. They called him on the phone and kept trying to persuade him. This has no effect on your other applications, I got accepted by UCR first and my other schools later.

UCI reach, UCSD far reach, UCLA super far reach

Yeah I remember back in HS when people got letters from UCR and UCM. As for UCLA I would 0% chance as UCLA students need a 3.3 to get into the major.

what do you mean by “reach?” – I have little chance?

obviously, you’ve got some sort of chance… kind of like you’ve got a chance of dunking at 5’10’'… then again, odds are that you aren’t one of those few people ordained with that kind of luck.
