UCR acceptance email?

I got an email from the Dean of Admission that says:

Congratulations on a truly outstanding high school career. I am very impressed with your academic performance, and, after initial review, I am recommending you for admission to the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS) at the University of California, Riverside.

You will be hearing from the UC Riverside Undergraduate Admissions Office in January. Please remember that your admission to UC Riverside is contingent upon your continued success during the remainder of your high school career.

Learn more and explore the extraordinary opportunities waiting for you in CHASS. Don’t forget to schedule a student-led tour of the campus.

In the meantime, please go to MyUCR to create your admission notification account. Through your MyUCR account, you will get important updates from your Admissions Counselor, and be able to check on your admission status. Follow the on-screen instructions to create your account now!

Please extend my warmest holiday wishes to your entire family. We look forward to welcoming you to the UC Riverside family!

Sincerely,

Stephen E. Cullenberg
Dean, College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences

FYI I applied as a pre business administration major. I thought this was an acceptance email, but now I am not so sure. Has anyone else received this email, or know what it means?

My S received this email for the College of Engineering. It looks promising but not an acceptance. UCR usually starts sending acceptances Late January/Early February. Good Luck.

My D received the same (by email and snail mail) from College of Humanities. By the tone of the letter, I am assuming these kids got in since the letter says “your admission is contingent” ? It is so confusing and I hope colleges can be more specific so that these children are not stressed thinking if they got in or did not get in…!:)

My D received the same. They are commonly referred to as likely letters. Colleges have various reasons for issuing them, but the main purpose is to get the prospective applicant interested in the college before all the other acceptance letters are released.

I got the same letter as well! The first time I got it was through email. Then a few days later I received the same letter by regular mail along with the 54 Facts about UCR book. Apparently I was recommended to attend the College of Natural and Agricultural Science. I’m not sure if its an admission letter but it ended with “We look forward to welcoming you to the UC Riverside family!”

Hmm sounds promising.

Yeah, I got the same thing for CNAS last week, but only by email; I didn’t get a letter in the mail. Looks promising though!

S received this letter and booklet in the mail yesterday. Good to have one in the pocket!

Is it a bad sign if I didn’t receive this email from UCR? I only received an email stating “Your application has been received.”

@ShaneBlakeEy: This is not a bad sign. Usually the applicants that receive this email are higher Stats students which make them eligible for the Presidential, Chancellor and Highlander scholarships. UCR is trying very hard to attract high performing applicants on attending and locking in their decisions early.
