I applied to UCR as a business major and listed Political Science as an Alt. major. I was admitted to the Political Science program because I had not completed all of my Pre-Reqs for the business program. My question for y'all is, what is the process and how long would it take for me to transfer to the Business School?

My info:
Junior level Transfer with 60+ units.
3.6 GPA
I completed most of the pre-reqs, I just need Calculus, Intro to Comp., and Intro to Business. Also, I will (hopefully) get to take at least two of the mentioned classes over the summer.

Thank you, all help/advice is appreciated =)

not that hard to get in, 3.0+ with all rereq done or 3.4+ with 80% done. Also don’t pressure yourself, this is riverside and im sure this is not your first option?

I’m going to let you in on a secret… for “business”, your major doesn’t really matter much.

what does matter, in order
1 Uni you went to
2 WORK EXPERIENCE
3 GPA
4 major

I have a friend at UCI who is a poli sci major + accounting minor, but he’s co-oped in corporate finance with an F500 company and played an active role in a business club(and he coached youth baseball as well) he has a 3.8GPA and he’s beating out UCLA kids in getting interviews. He’s also prime material for a top business schools(at least top 25)

I’m struggling a bit more than he is. I’m doing math/econ and minoring in accounting and stats and my WE is a little weaker and I only have a 3.5 gpa. I’m still getting interviews and have some things lined up for this summer, but come next fall when I’m going for fall recruiting, I’ll be shuffling.

I’m a bit amazed that you didn’t get into the Business school o_o. Couple of my friends with GPA less than 3.2 and hardly finished any of the pre-reqs got accepted into the major. Anyways, I think you should rack up as much of the pre-req classes you can over the summer then try to change major as you enter the UCR.

If you enter UCR as a political science major I think you only have one quarter to complete the pre reqs that you have left for business. You probably did not get into business because you did not complete calculus requirement which is very important even though it’s UCR. If you take your remaining prerequisites at UCR you have to get a UC GPA of 2.7 or higher and I heard at the presentation SOBA had at Highlander day that the GPA might rise in the near future.
