UCR or community college?

I just recently got denied from Santa Cruz and have only been accepted into UC riverside so far for microbiology. Do you guys think $28k yearly is worth for a school like riverside or do you think I should just transfer and try to get into a better UC?

What are your career plans with your Micro degree? Is UCR affordable?

@Gumbymom My plans are to graduate and apply for a nursing program and/or a physician assistant program. And yeah, it’s affordable for me.

If it is affordable and you plan to pursue nursing or PA programs, UCR could give you more opportunities for health related volunteer/research EC’s than starting at a CC.

I say go to community college and try again in two years. Community colleges have transfer admission gurantees with about 6 UC’s. I havnt paid a dime for community college and have gotten a ton of financial aid tobspend on anything i want. About $15k in 2 years

Have you done the TAG system at a community college? If so, how hard was it to maintain the required GPA? and if you follow their requirements, you’re practically admitted for sure right?
I know CC is just priorities and time management, but I’m wondering since I want to know how difficult the CC work is since I’ve been told not to work and do a bunch of credits at the same time

If you can afford it, UCR will give you a very good education and being there all 4 years will avail you to research an d other out of classroom opportunities. Those will make you a more competitive applicant at the next level. Then there’s the freshman dorm experience…

TAG can also be a viable option but, not all UC campuses participate and, some exclude their more popular majors. The GPA threshold is also a challenge for many STEM students.

Good luck

I’ve been also contemplating on going to either community college or UCR. I feel like the downfall on going to community college is missing out on the freshman dorm experience.
