UCR or CSULB?

So I only got accepted to 2 colleges: UC Riverside and CSU Long Beach. I'm not really sure which one I should go to. I'm planning to major in Electrical Engineering and I would like to know, of the two, which has a better Engineering School? I hear both have fantastic programs but which one is better? Also, which one is better in general (place, people, atmosphere, etc.)?

I think I can rake up enough money for UCR so money isn't the issue but CSULB will be a lot cheaper for me because I live so close I wouldn't have to dorm. My friends tell me I should have the "college-dorming experience" so I'm really unsure which to go to.

Any insight or advice is much appreciated! :)

UCR engineering is much stronger than CSULB engineering.

Not sure if UCR is that much stronger than Long Beach for eng’g. LB has a strong eng’g program. To claim that UCR’s dept is much stronger probably is not accurate.

That said, why don’t you wait and see what your FA id? UCs are giving good aid to those who qualify. What is your EFC?

What are your parents saying? How much will THEY pay each year?

You can nit-pick about whether or not it is “that much stronger” or not, but the fact is that UCR’s overall engineering program is better than CSULB’s. Both have good enough programs though, so I think you should pick based on other factors (though that can be one consideration). I was simply responding to the OP’s question about which is stronger in engineering. The answer: UCR.

Beg to differ with you Collegiate. Just returned today from visits to Caltech, Cal Poly-Po, and UC irvine. We also were curious about Long Beach, so we went to CSULB.
Long Beach impressed us. We couldn’t get in on a regular tour, so we did the self tour. We had an impromptu meeting with the Dean of Computer Engineering who met with us, greeted us like old friends then discussed their program and internships with all of the local engineering firms: lockheed, boeing (is onsite), northrop, etc. Spoke with us for about 45 minutes! Then we went to the general engineering advising center, again impromptu meeting with engineering advisor-about 45 minutes! Huge, Huge engineering department! Redondo beach companies come to campus to recruit engineers. Impressive staff to talk to us without appointments. Son has a 2370 SAT, and is considering Long Beach.

^ Your posts talks about how great CSULB’s engineering department is, but nowhere did you compare it to UCR. Again, I stated that CSULB engineering is good. The OP asked which is better, and I gave my answer. That’s not to say that someone shouldn’t pick CSULB over UCR. However, you did not point out how CSULB is better in engineering than UCR.

CSULB-location, location, location, Money saved, depth of engineering program and coursework handout given by LB with hands on approach with engineering labs on-site.
We’ve visited ucr-have you? You’re not a student at UCR so have you taken coursework there? How is it that you’ve arrived at your decision that UCR is better?
Son is at 2370 SAT, he’s pretty sharp and URM-Mexican, good background in programming and Java taken at UCSD as a sophomore summer HS student.
Additionally: son has learned info from the following-
Dad is engineering masters grad from Stanford, son will be a legacy. Grandpa is grad of Caltech, son will be a legacy. Son’s sister is graduating with a degree in EE from NY this May. So, saying we’re impressed with CSULB is not a whim.
