UCR or UCI for political science?

ive been accepted to both and i was wondering which would have a better poli sci program for me.

first off, congrats on your acceptances

secondly, i'd go with Irvine b/c its a higher ranked institution than UCR. UCR is actually a disgrace to the UC system. UCI is a fairly high ranked school and a degree from there is fairly respected.

student4u,

Care to explain why UCR is a "disgrace?" It doesn't seem to me that most UC students consider it a disgrace at all.

Anyway, UCI is certainly the stronger program in PS, but I know that UCR has some decent faculty members as well. What's your interest in poli sci, if you have one? IR? American? Comparative?

I'm a polysci major at USC. I was also accepted to UCLA and every other UC except for Berkeley.

Well that is my opinion that UCR is a disgrace and I'm entitled to my opinion. I think its a disgrace b/c it has very low rankings as an institution. Their programs are rather weak and I've heard complaints from many students. And looking at their acceptance rates and criteria doesn't make them look too credible either.

You're a poli sci major, yet you can't spell "poli sci" correctly?

Sigh.

That's nice. ::Pats student4u on the head:: Want a cookie?

Just because you're entitled to your opinion doesn't make it a good one. UCR isn't one of the top UCs, but it's certainly a decent institution. And since when have acceptance rates been the best way to judge...anything? Michigan has a fairly high acceptance rate, but I'd place it amongst the top American universities.

O' I appologize for the incorrect spelling. i though i'd look it up in the dictionary before I wrote it in, but you know what? neither polysci nor polisci was there.

and you know what? they're actually a form of slang. so there's no right or wrong.

Sorry to break it to you, but poli sci is widely accepted as the abbreviation. "Poly" makes no sense, anyway. The study of "many sciences?"

widley accepted doesn't make it so.... sorry to break that to you.

Poly sci doesn't even make sense though. I know some schools seem to use "poly sci," but every major paper I've seen published, if it used an abbreviation, used "poli sci."

This is especially bad, when you consider that "poly sci" is used for polymer sciences. Poli sci just makes so much more sense.

It still doesn't change the fact that UCR is a decent school.

You are indeed entitled to your opinion, but a disgrace? Low ranked? I can't agree here- in fact, it's quite high considering how many schools exist in the US. Take the US News for example. It's in the top 100, at about 75, near UCSC. It is probably as respected at UCSC and UCI. Why do people see real gaps in quality between those three schools? People complain everywhere.
