Hello, I have already signed my SIR to UCLA a while ago. However, today in the mail I received a Full Regents Scholarship to UCR. This has come a few days after the SIR deadline, so the fault is on their part and not mine. I assume they would let me sign the SIR late because of this error, correct?

I plan to major in neuroscience and be pre-med. I've heard many say that your undergraduate isn't important to med school. So would it be advisable to me to go to UCR for free then pay the large sum for UCLA? (no financial aid to UCLA).

I have no personal objections to the school. I live in Riverside already so I wouldn't have to pay for housing either. I was sort of excited about going to UCLA, but it's tempting to pass up free college. Any help?

If you still want to you can still do it when they get off some school waitlist. Plenty of people do it. I think you can accept UCR and then call and turn down UCLA.
However, I would not turn down UCLA for UCR Regents. Please think carefully before you do. What about experiencing college experience? Is UCR too close for you?

Is the so-called “college experience” truly worth $80,000???

It depends on the person. My daughter turned down UCI Regents and other UCs with $$ for USC. But the money is not as important to us. However, my niece turned down UCLA for UCI Regents(she is premed), so it depends on the person and what major. Good luck with your decision!

If you are TRULY content with UCR (that means, you do actually like it, not that you’re going when you really really dislike it), and you are positive about going to med school, then I might go there instead.

However, if you want a ‘college experience’ as Columbia_Student said, you may think about living on campus for the first year.

If you’re really iffy on going to med school, I would be little more hesitant.

i dont think its worth getting into debt for ucla, especially when you’re going to med school later.

80K is way too much.
<30K over 4 years for UCLA yes. >30K for UCLA no.

Well I’m neither content nor dissatisfied with UCR. I mean I’ve been there before for summer classes and it was fine. But I’m not like jumping up and down to be going there. And I’m pretty sure about med school. There is really right now no doubt in my mind about not going to med school.

I still dont think UCLA is worth getting into debt for, unless your parents can afford it to the point where it wont affect their life style or yours.

Also, UCR doesn’t have a med school (yet), so this would be harder to find research opportunities, correct?

I heard most UCs have research opportunities. But you should ask this question to the UCR forum to be sure before you accept UCR Regents.

I’ve checked their website and UCR DOES have research opportunities, but of course not as much as UCLA. But they definitely do have quite a lot. I’ve been stressing over this decision all day and I’ve ended up nowhere. Any one else have any ideas? Some people are telling me it’s not worth going to UCR for the money because UCLA would give me a lot more connections and opportunities. But the thing is, it doesn’t really matter as much for med school right, GPA is more important?

I can’t choose =(

I agree with liek on this one! Avoiding debt is good if it is possible…
