this has probably been the most useful thread, I was debating between here and csupomona and I may attend riverside as a transfer student this fall. The only thing I have seen happen is a couple of friends would take a full course load and still graduate a little late both are business majors. I on the other hand am a history major and would like to get into the field of teaching. So I was wondering depending on your major will there always be classes available so that I wont waste an extra year taking classes that weren’t available during a certain quarter. Because I am trying to graduate in 2 years and was wondering if that was possible, I would obviously be a full time student and most likely take courses during the summer.

I’d like to add a very crucial information in terms of UCR that seemed to have been neglected.

UCR only has 2 accreditations:
American Psychological Associations (APA)
Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)

I find it surprising that such a “prestigious” school only has 2 accreditations.
One of my college counselors discussed about school accreditations and it is actually a very important factor to consider in terms of college choices.

By the way, here’s the link I got the information from: http://colleges.findthebest.com/l/274/University-of-California-Riverside-UCR

^What the hell…? UCR is regionally accredited by WASC. I fail to see any issues. Don’t you think people would know if UCR didn’t have the proper accreditation…

What did your counselor even tell you?

JerzonIII, I’d be concerned with a counselor that is raising an issue about any school that has only a WASC accreditation. That is the one that all of the UCs have (including Cal and UCLA). WASC accreditation is the gold standard for schools in the western US.

As an engineering major, any suggestions for relatively easy breadth courses to take? I can’t take English 1b fall quarter so I wish to take a breadth course in replacement.

Is it true that Rivera Library and the res halls are haunted? :(

@Nichechinnom, check out this thread for easy breadth classes: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-riverside/1382446-easy-breadth-classes-ucr.html

@bobblyhead, I Googled “hauntings at UCR” and I got these links: [ForgottenUSA | UCR Lothian Dining services is Haunted in Riverside California](http://forgottenusa.com/haunts/CA/3206/UCR%20Lothian%20Dining%20services/) & [HAUNTED PLACES IN CALIFORNIA: RIALTO - RUBIDOUX](<a href=“HAUNTED PLACES IN CALIFORNIA: RIALTO - RUBIDOUX”>HAUNTED PLACES IN CALIFORNIA: RIALTO - RUBIDOUX)

Of course, the second link mentions that “short lasting obnoxious odors have been smelled in the basement” of Rivera library, which could just be the decaying smell of our hopes and dreams during finals week, so take that info with a grain of salt (and throw it over your left shoulder if you’re superstitious).

it shouldn’t matter, unless you are superstitious.

Hey guys, I was really wondering how the Housing Situation for transfers is? I’m transferring fall 2014 or 2015 and I really really want to live in the dorms. I remember reading a thread once that said even if you applied for dorms, Housing would give transfers a campus apartment. Is this true for people? Anyboody had any experience?

Hey guys, this isn’t really much of a question but more like a reassurance (I sort of need the support now so if you would be so kind but to give me some hope). Let me give you some background. I’m a student at one if the best schools in California and I’m a senior. Acceptance letters has been rolling out for my classmates and I already got one from Michigan state for EE. Its just lately I’ve been told by parents and classmates saying that I’m a failure for not getting accepted to Harvard (I don’t care to be honest) but lately it’s been bugging me. I know that my problems aren’t unique either. When I spoke with several professors of EE at UCR I had immediately had a good feeling about the school. I’m looking into other UCs too like Irvine, Santa Cruz, and Davis (for math). So far I have a good feeling about all of them. I like them all. So I just want to know if any engineers from UCR went to a really good grad school and got really good jobs. I want to know the opportunities UCR provides that can help me as an engineer grow. I want to prove to my parents that success is a ladder you can’t climb with hands in your pockets. I would say that I’m a very ambitious and hard worker. In my AP chemistry class I am the only student who didn’t take honors chem and I have an A- in the class. I love learning and want to hear from any engineer that is going to UCR or graduated to tell me his or her the quality of education.

i was actually applying for electrical and computer engineering course. i wanted to choose between uc riverside( ranked 47) and u texas dellas(ranked 53) for the electrical and computer engineering. please tell me wrt job prospects.

how hard is the english classes ? im an incoming freshmen for the fall of 2014. i will also be taking the classes require to enter the normal english level. keep in mind that english is not my first language

I am a Junior at UCR. Transfer student. I think it is a great school. And I think this was an awesome and quite accurate review. I’m more reserved and I actually have found myself opening up to people a lot more than usual at UCR because of how friendly the atmosphere is. I also am a single mom, which is the reason I ended up at a CC first even though I was an AP student in high school, but if I would have known how accepting UCR is of all types of students maybe I would have come sooner. The family housing is awesome here and my financial aid (maybe a small part comes from my loans) covers my rent. My little boy has his own room and we have a yard. And as far as the area being ghetto… um I drive a really nice car that would’ve gotten broken into by now if the area was ghetto. I have sisters who recently graduated UCLA and when they came to see me they liked the housing at UCR better. I was originally UCLA bound, but am happy I changed my mind.
