<p>Hi, I just completed my first year at UCR and I would like to apply to UCLA this November. I was just wondering what my tentative chances are and if I was on the right track.<br>
Here are my stats:</p>
<p>Major: Political Science
Overall GPA: 3.86
Poly SCi GPA: 3.77
Pre-reqs: 3/4 (missing one more comparative politics class)
AP Units: 32
I am going to finish all my GE's by at least Spring 2011.</p>
<p>If UCLA is where you want to end up, I think you should transfer to a JC. You know how competitive admission into Political Science at UCLA is, right?</p>
<p>Will transferring from UCR to a CC significantly increase my chances of getting into UCLA?
In other words, is it worth the risk?</p>
<p>there’s no risk, because worst case secnario is that you end up at UCR a year later, but saved a ton of sophomore tuition. If you transfer to a CCC and do well there than there’s a veeeeeeeeeeeeeery high chance that you’ll get accepted to most of the UCs. Given the competitiveness of UCLA and poly sci, nothing’s guaranteed, but I’d say you have a good shot.</p>
<p>I disagree with theregoesevan a bit. If making the switch to a community college is a hassle, and you’re already comfortable with UCR, just stay there. UCLA is the one UC that claims to NOT give preference to community college transfers above other UC transfers. If you complete all pre-requisites and have a GPA at or above the average accepted, you should get in.</p>
<p>The benefits of a community college are that it’s easier to maintain a high GPA and it’s cheaper.</p>
<p>^ Really? I heard they do if you still do the TAP agreement – Of course that only helps College of Letters and Science majors…</p>
<p>TAP would give him an advantage if he was able to do that. If that’s the case then it might be worth the switch to community college.</p>
<p>I’m just pointing out that at least according to UCLA, they give equal priority to UC and community college transfers.</p>
<p>Just take some honors and maintain a high GPA. That’s essentially TAP anyway. Also, if you try to do TAP in just 1 year you might get stuck having to take some crappy classes (like honors science/math, which I’m assuming will suck for you since you’re a poly sci major) which might lower your GPA.</p>
