Ugh still waiting for the decision;( Really hope i can hear from UCR by this Friday
anybody going to highlander day this Saturday?
@marveldude I made a reservation but it’s contingent upon whether or not I get offered admission lol. I live in Riverside so it’s no biggie for me to decide last minute…hell, UCR decided last minute on a lot of us >.<
I’m not trying to sound negative, but UCR has really turned me off. This is the kind of thing I dealt with in high school when they accepted a bunch of people only for it to be an error. The representative for my HS was a total jerk too.
I do hope it’s today, since someone said they were suppose to finish this week. If it isn’t, then I don’t know what to think.
@CAHLOS when I asked them last week they said by the end of the first week of April but who knows at this point. I was really hoping early this week too. I had 2-3 emails yesterday from the UC Admissions requesting for more info (not sure if that’s good or not), but I thought maybe it was UCR requesting it—perhaps the reason why my decision was taking so long. But the request turned out to be from UCI admissions instead.
@holatomm did they happen to say whether they’re still giving out acceptances? I’m hoping since we didn’t hear back yet, it doesn’t mean they’re just giving out the waitlist decisions or rejections. Based on the freshmen decisions this year, they sent out admissions first, then waitlisted, and finally rejections last.
Accepted! (In early march)

My #1 is UCI, but this is my backup. Waiting on that uci decision tho!!!
Is there a facebook group for transfers?
I went to Highlander day and they said that they are working as fast as they can and remaining decisions will be released until mid April
I toured off campus housing not associated with UCR at Grandmarc and they’re really nice.
@vrios95 do you happen to know how much rent would be there? I’d love on campus housing but it’s more expensive than what’s around off campus.
Also for any CHASS people who weren’t able to attend Highlander Day, I thought they were all super friendly and informative about their college. I’m really interested in their mentor ship program for transfer students. The girl I talked to sounded so passionate about it that she really sold me on it, lol. I thought UCR was a lovely campus, and it smells so nice right now due to all the flowers
@ilovemydog2019 So I toured the Grandmarc and they are currently only offering 4 bed/4 bath. You can get a single room (Full sized bed) with your own bathroom, laundry room INSIDE the apartment, pool, spa, game room, theatre room, study room with iMac computers, printer (provide your own printer paper), tanning beds (2). The apartments also come furnished and the stove is gas, not electric. They offer $25/yearly parking permits. The community is gated. Amazon locker is on the premises. There’s an additional fee added a month of $150 to double up in occupancy so add $150 to the base rent of $835 and divide by 2 if you want a double(share the room)
$835 for your own room
$492.50 for double occupancy
If you want their premium apartment which is $889/month for an individual
$519 for double occupancy in the premium apartment.
The difference is that instead of that “dorm” looking flooring, you get laminate wood flooring, granite counter tops, black appliances, and a mounted flat screen TV.
Ideally I would do off campus housing, but I’m stressed out because I want to room with other transfers so I’m not paired with randoms
My Highlander Day experience was okay. It was disorganized from what I observed. They gave me the 2018 agenda and I planned my entire day on it. I didn’t make it to my sessions until I noticed that no one was in the same room as me. I frantically took out the agenda that I got and saw that it was completely different than the one provided online. Waited for on campus apartment tours and I asked at the booth if I had to register to go on the tour and they said no, just follow that guy(tour guide). We wait to walk towards the shuttle buses only to find out we needed tickets. Got turned away and they said I needed a ticket, when clearly I had asked if I needed to do anything prior to the tour. Went back to the booth, missed my next session, explained how frustrated I was that it was disorganized and how I ended up with the wrong information. Was then apologized to and the supervisor was nice to give me his email to explain what had occurred. Waited again for the shuttle waiting for tickets and when we noticed a group of students getting ready to leave, we asked if they(tour guide) still had tickets (obviously holding them) and they said “oh yeah do you need one?” I think it would be best if the tour guides could have gone around distributing tickets or announced they were going to release X amount of tickets in X color. The group walking to the shuttle broke apart and I’m sure they must’ve missed the ride. They could do a better job of organizing the lines for apartment tours, by wearing microphones and possibly even carrying a sign. It was particularly overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time. I do REALLY like their diversity and the GSOE.
Just disappointed that I want to give UCR a chance since I like their off campus housing. I think I’ll visit next week again with another set of eyes
Finally checked my portal in the morning around 8 and didn’t see an update.
Checked randomly a minute ago and my status was updated I got accepted!
Got accepted, will leave details here in hopes for it to be helpful.
Major: Biology
GPA: 3.3
Pre-reqs: Finished with my Bio, Chem, and O-chem series. Haven’t touched physics. Done up to Calc 1.
IGETC: Done
EC: Volunteering works involving conventions, became a board member for many associated students clubs.
I also work part time.
I would believe one of the key factors that helped me were my additional comments/UC essays, though I’m not too sure. There was a reason with the low GPA I have which is due to mental illness in which I have recovered from. It was an awful state that affected two semesters that I’m glad to get out of.
Anyways, I wish you all the best of luck! <3
Rejected from UCR transfer with 3.95 GPA and research, only reason I can think of is that I went directly from middle school to college and so don’t have any high school transcripts…would that disqualify me?
@ollie1029 Sorry to hear it Hm I don’t think so, they don’t ask for HS transcripts. Did you complete all of the prerequisites? Where are you transferring from?
