UCR, UCI, or UCSB?

Hey guys I've been facing the same problem as most students when it comes to choosing where to go. I'm a transfer student majoring in business economics or business admin in ucr. Not sure which school I should go to. Money is an issue and UCR has the major I want and I pretty much got my needs met financially, but the school doesn't seem as great compared to the other two. UCSB is beautiful and their biz econ (accounting) looks good, but living costs too expensive! UCI, its nice but they're not much for business, and plus I'm having a lil trouble getting into the major I wanted. Well hope any of you would give me some input.

ucsb or uci.

uci accounting concentration (pretty well regarded)
ucsb - they have something like that too
ucr's aco****ing is not that bad either.. 3 out of the big four recruit there but you hvae to have a good gpa (3.6+)

Sodapop - I think UCI has a good business prospects. They just announced the formation of 2 BAs in Business Administration starting in 2008. They are also close to a lot of businesses in the OC area so good job prospects.

Is their something specific that you are concerned about for UCI?

I can't speak for the other two schools, but the business program at UCR is very good. I had considered applying to UCI as well, but at the time I did not want to just take a minor in business and that was all they offered. Besides, the courses offered at UCR seemed to appeal to me more than most other schools, and I ended up having to decide between USC and UCR. I chose UCR on the basis that it was much cheaper, and that I didn't want to bury myself in debt before grad school.

That being said, look at the courses at all the schools, the faculty, the organizations, the area, and see which one you like best. I'm sure you'll do fine at any of those schools. One recommendation though, if you're interested in accounting and attend UCR, I highly recommend joining the Accounting Society. They do a ton of networking with various accounting firms, have firms come out and speak, and they even visit and take tours of the firms in the Los Angeles area (Ernst and Young, etc.). Good luck, you'll be fine with any school you choose!

Thanks guys for replying! (^-^) I appreciate you taking the time!

demolition, uci just said that I didn't satisfy the prerequisites or requirements for the biz econ so they put me into international studies. I got a lil concerned, but I guess that I can work it out and get in. I'm probably missing a social science class.

I still have a few weeks to think about it thanks everyone. And good luck to you all in school and whatever dreams your pursuing!

Go UCR only for business admin,.
otherwise try UCSB, it's a party school but you have chance to meet other ethinicity friends, not just asians like UCI. cuz if you major business , you gotta "see" the world as a whole not just people surrounding you

as far as i know, im in UCR now, UCR people are sooo immature , always so-called urban highschoolers around campus, not a good atmosphere for you pursuing business

another thing i wanna add on is, go for business major that has a good future and fortune.
in UC system, you might want to try Business Adminstration. think about this, your competitors are USC or UCLA people also those lower than you cal-states(except Cal fullerton). but see UCR is a UC, it will has some weight than regular cal states. so go for business administration is a good choice at UCR.

but if you consider Busines Econ, it's very general, also, your competitors will be higher positions than you. for ex: UCB, UCLA, UCSD,all better than UCI, also, USC is the best for business... so yah you have to consider that

UCI isnt that great in regards to the big 4. Compared to UCSB, it is a young program (so i have heard) and sends a fraction that UCSB does.

UCR as mentioned before has 3 of the big 4, but PWC does take a few of their students every year through general career fairs (mentioned by a PWC LA office recruiter)

UCSB can be reasonable. The costs are what made me consider UCR, but i eventually choose UCSB because i was wrong about living expenses. I have been able to find my own room (albeit a little small) for $600 a month and a 30 second walk to campus.

Note - it would be wonderful if the accounting society at UCR kept a website, theirs has been down for months and i have yet to figure out if they started a new one or they are lazy

sweet, so you're going to ucsb southpas? its a nice school, mix of party and academics.

i decided to give into my temptations. However, i still want to see how the commons looks when it is finished. USC shall be my second home during football season. You should make friendly with band members, get them to give up their free tickets and sell them to me

note, for UCR, majority have 3.4 or higher. nearly every firm besides deloitte which i cant find has their requirements as: Major 3.2 and overall 3.0 at UCSB. That may be something you want to look at considering a 3.0 is pretty much the minimum for any internship period (w/ exceptions of course)

And both damn schools need new technology officers. Neither has ever been able to keep sites updated or even keep them running.

wow tanks guys! I'm soaking in every bit you tell me.

south, is the party scene at sb a big distraction? I've been to a halloween one last year...it was pretty crazy. And what kind of people do you meet there? Uci has too many asians, and I've heard friends say those at ucr aren't up to par.

oh wat are u majoring in at ucr fantasy? I've heard so many people bash ucr, and it makes the school so undesirable.

Just wondering, what did your friend mean by "up to par?"

i dont go to ucsb yet, i am going to be, so i really dont have a clue.

oh iono a few people I know told me that people they've meet there aren't that great. Well, maybe thats y they transfered out.

My major is business admin with concentration on Accounting,
your friend is very paranoid. dont get confused, UCR isnt a horrible low-profile school, at least we could say, it's better than any cal-states and same par with cal poly .
i think UCR's weakness is that people dont study, all they want is frat or sono parties. , gangsters, drug dealers around. people dont have a good atmosphere to study.
well to me, these points existed, but not even single distraction to me, becasue i know what im doin and where im going --->USC grad school.

so with a good targeting of my future, I would say, I learned stuff at UCR, and these are foundation to the gradschool.

If people are not studying at all and only slacking off, then it seems like it'd be pretty easy to get a 4.0. Sounds like a good deal to me.

fantasy, your post was seriously one of the most idiotic statements i have ever read. Now i am not calling you one, but what you said was extremely ignorant = idiotic and really is expected of a prestige whore that knows little about a school and its environment, yet speaks as if he/she actually understands and/or has experienced what they are commenting on.
