UCR vs. UCSC

Which school would be better for engineering?

i would think it would be UCR but people keep saying that school as a whole is the dumpster school of the UC system so i dunno

SC is the better engineering choice. You also have access to silicon valley there.

Neither school is known for Engineering, so you should pick the school with the better campus environment, which most would say is UCSC.

UC is emphasizing UCSC for engineering. This means it gets extra funding, faculty & graduate students are steered there, etc. The optional written evaluations of undergraduate students, in addition to grades, is reputedly a significant boost to graduate school applications in the sciences and engineering.

UCSC is also significantly superior to UCR in the proportion of full-time instructors, as opposed to adjunct faculty (hired just to teach a single course) in almost every field. It is a better place for most undergraduates. There are exceptions, such as English and Politics where UCR could hardly be worse.
