UCR WINTER 2018 TRANSFER THREAD

Hello fellow prospective-Highlanders,

While admissions decisions wont be released until around November, I figured it may be best to get to know each other early on considering how condensed the “applicant to student” process seems to be.

It also seems that UCR’s decision to open Winter quarter for transfers may have been geared more towards local students around the campus who are planning to reside in the same location as they attend classes. I think this is great, although not having guaranteed housing when transferring in the middle of the year does make it tricky for students who are not within driving distance of the campus.

I myself am from Sacramento & just started my second year at a CC as a Bio and Public Policy double major. I’m very excited to start at UCR (provided I get accepted), but (as you can tell) am a bit nervous about the housing situation.

While I started this thread mainly to talk about housing logistics with other students, I hope it will serve as a place for everyone to swap ideas, advice, questions, and stories as we begin the transfer process.

Hey I also applied to ucr winter 2018. Check ur myucr…something wierd happened, I received my SIR but the main page announcements said my application is still under review, I’ll have to call admissions on Tuesday. As far as the housing there are a lot of rooms you can rent on short notice and for cheap in the area until you get settled.

Thanks Washington88! I’ll be on the look out for those!

It seems weird they’d send out your SIR without announcing the admissions decision. Let me know what you find out!

I’m planning to transfer Winter 2019, if I don’t get in Fall 2018! Do you think Glen Mor rooms will be open for Winter transfers?

I cannot say with certainty, but I’d think receiving housing as a winter transfer student is more in your favor next year. By then, the kinks for winter transfers may be resolved and more apartments may be constructed to accommodate UCR’s plan to double its student body by 2025.

In case you were actually asking if you are eligible to apply for Glen Mor, yes you can! All (non-freshmen) undergrads can apply! (Sorry if this is what you meant haha)

Thanks so much! I talked to a bunch of UCR students about this and apparently a lot of students come and go with housing throughout the year, so winter transfers won’t get affected because of the time they’re transferring in!

do you know if UCR’s winter transfer app is set for the rest of the years or was it only for 2018? I’m unsure for they did it once before in 2010 and haven’t done it again since this year.

I’m not 100% sure, but I would bet money that winter apps will be open for the next couple of years as UCR expands their student body.
