WOULD LIKE TO MAJOR IN
Computer Science or Engineering

Thank You in advance!!

The_Who:

UCLA: Reach (Engineering)
UCSD: Reach (Engineering)
UCD: Slight Reach
UCSB: Slight Reach
UCI: Slight Reach
Cal Poly SLO: Slight Reach

UCI:Match/Safty
UCSB:Match/Safety
UCLA:Reach
UCSD:Match
UCD:Match/Safety
Cal Poly: Match/Safety

Your grades and SAT score are lower, and EC's probably average compared with the regular UCLA acceptee.

Thanks alot but I am a little confused because flopsy said all of them were reaches or slight reaches, but Bubbles for sale said that most were match/safeties so if anyone else could give me feedback, that would be great!

i believe flopsy took into account the major. SAT score is low, GPA is low for LA and SD, and no outstanding ECs. i'd go with:

UCI: match
UCSB: match
UCLA: reach
UCSD: reach
UCD: match
Cal Poly: match

Thanks ebonytear...so should I put my intended major on the application or would putting "undecided" give me a better chance of getting in?

B U M P

at CalPoly you must declare a major.

cal poly slo is harder to get into than you think. it's a slight reach at least

ok. but the others like UCI, UCSB, UCD, and maybe UCLA I have a better chance of getting in without declaring a major?

If you don't declare engineering, you won't get into it later.

so what would be better, declaring my major as computer science or as engineering?

B U M P

UCLA and UCSD - REACH (worth a try)

UCSB - Slight slight reach/match only because admissions are stiff because it is a very popular school (both socially and academically, emphasis on socially.)

UCD/UCI/Cal Poly SLO - match

Thanks. Should I declare my major as computer science or engineering?

B U M P

I wouldnt advise you to decide on a major based on whether you will be admited to the college of your choice with a bigger chance. But I am in the same boat as you, not outstanding, but good, in science and math and want to major in Engineering, but not sure becuase that'll lower my chances of getting admitted to UCSD and UCLA.

This is an alternative that I might be consider taking... Major in Applied Math, which is SORT of like a pavement to graduate engineering. Because I read on CollegeBoard that students that major in Applied Math are most likely to go into engineering in graduate school.

I totally feel you because my interest lays in CS and Engineering BUT WHY ARE THEY SO POPULAR? >_<

Also, it depends on what engineering you want to do. Last year, my friend with 1140 (old SAT)(700M 440V) and SAT II Math of 700, with NO EC except for NHS and Interact, got into UCSD majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Sooo, I wouldn't say your chance as slim, I would say Slight Reach/Match.

thats cool that you want to major in that too. all i know right now is that i want to later do something with computers and technology. so maybe computer engineer? hopefully i'll get into sd.

Yay, Comptuer Engineering! A little of Computer Science mixed with Engineering, it sounds great, but one of the most toughest majors for admission, boohoo.

I threw that idea out when I had my chances posted, and my chance of SD went from a Match to a Reach when i announced my major as computer engineering.

crap.... what are you going to do.? still apply as computer engineering? or do something else. i dont want to apply as a math major because i dont really want to do just math during college. i want to do some physics, computers, and also SOME math... stupid evil admissions.
