Which UCs would you say require a car? (this one goes out to all current UC students)

Requires is quite strong. Some people would go to a school and not want to leave the campus ever. Schools that are vastly improved with a car may be all of them, but particularly UCR (Riverside- not quite anywhere, but in a great location between places), UCLA (there's plenty to do on campus, but if you want to utilize the entireity of LA, you really do need a car, or a friend with one), and maybe Davis, if you want to go places other than where the free busses take you, such as Berkeley, and I think Sacremento.

Anyway, at Cal, it can be helpful sometimes, such as when you're buying groceries, but it's possible to go a lot of places on public transportation. Sometimes, it would be easier to get there with a car, but sometimes it's about the same, and cheaper to not have a car. Also, it's much less of a hassle. Getting a spot is such a pain. It seems a tad easier than UCLA, parking wise, but around that bad. Maybe I'm off, though. I don't analyze the parking that much. Anyway, I've been all over SF, down to Mountain View a few times, to Palo Alto and Stanford, and to Oakland fairly easily on public transportation. Concerts can be attended . . . oh yes, all over the Bay Area, even without a car.

campus parking is usually expensive and there are never enough spaces. try to avoid bringing a car freshman year until you get used to the campus.

yeah, thats what i hear, and i dont plan on doing it anyhow first year.

thanks for your input!

i am bringing my new golf gti to ucla if i get admitted.
