During the summer after my junior year, I would like to take an economics course and/or business course at a local CC. I would like to major in one of them at UCLA or CAL. Would taking courses like these help my chances in admision, because I already showed interest in my future major? Would it hurt my UC GPA? Thanks.

I think it's a great idea! They are "college" classes, so whatever grades you get in them would be viewed with that knowledge. Plus, it shows an interest that made you go outside of school! Have fun with the classes :).

spydimag, I did something similar just this past summer (after my junior year). I'm interested in econ just like you are so I enrolled in an econ course at UC Berkeley. The course lasted 8 weeks and I think I was the only high school kid in it; it was interesting and taught well, the material wasn't hard at all, there was just a lot of it. So, if you're interested, go take a class. The only reason I did it at Cal is that I live about 10 minutes from there.

And if you take it at a UC Campus, your grade will go on your UC transcript. I'm not sure, but my guess is that it would be the same for a CC.

Taking courses is a wonderful idea. I took a total of 6 courses at local CC's before I came to UCLA. I believe it does look better on your apps because it shows that you can handle college work, even thought it is at a community college. It won't help you in admissions in that you show interest in your major, but it will help you overall. It won't hurt your UC gpa because the grades aren't transferred over I believe, it's only the credits that you have attained. Although, when you apply for grad school, your grades from the community college classes will be computed into your gpa.

Thanks for the answers everyone. I have one more question though.During my senior year, I want to take a multivariable calculus class. Would that show up on my college application?

Bump......

taking a cc course while you are in HS, impacts your HS UC-gpa, i.e., the one the look at for admission purposes. A cc course generally earns a bonus grade point, just like an AP/IB course. But, the UC's will not count other colleges grades when they calculate your undergraduate gpa once you matriculate.

If you take a cc or other college class (Cal State?) as a senior, you enter that on your UC app in the space provided for other colleges attended.....

if i took courses at a cc, would i have to send two transcripts (cc & high school) in order for them to see it then?

absolutely send HS and all college transcripts......
