If someone were to apply to UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCD, UCSC and had a 4.0 GPA, 2000 SAT, 700 SAT IIs, but very little volunteer hours and clubs (for example: being a member of a few clubs but not participating a lot), would they throw the application out right away or would the applicant still have a very good chance of getting in?

no they would look at the app but would be hesitant. is 2000 a good score? well try to find some place to volunteer outside of class. try to get as many extracarricular stuff in you apps like volunteering outside of school, trying to get a lot of club hours and try to become officers of clubs, participate in sports, etc When stats are good it then comes down to ECs and good essays.

you have a good chance of getting in but i wouldnt say a VERY good chance. look at the postings all over CC, and you'll be surprised at the stats of the people getting rejected by these schools. obviously, gpa and sat aren't everything at the UC's, and many of us underestimate other factors, including EC's.

You will get into at least a couple of them. The system is still pretty numbers-driven, at least for the lower level UCs.
