Which UCs? Which privates?

Your GPA is great, as are your SAT II scores. But your ACT score isn't; you need to bring that up to 30+. Your ECs are average, so those can't quite make up for it.

Sorry guys

I think part of the thread got cut off: here it is again

I plan to write my college essays on my trip in India, or how during my childhood i lived in Africa and India, and how this changed my outlook towars life. Are these too cliche?

UCLA, UCB, UCI, UCSD, UCD
USC
Tufts
Stanford(ed)
Rice
COrnell
university of washington
universtiy of wahington in St.louis

suggestion for other good pre-med schools?

Your good for all UCs, stanford (which is SCEA not ED) is out of range w/ those scores, same for cornell.

You can try to apply to JHU 7-year premed program, but it's really competitive.

thanks Saasaa. Anyone else?

Why did you take the ACT instead of the SAT?

Obviously, based upon your SAT II scores, you do much better on the SAT type tests.

Right now, with that SAT score, you are:

UC Berkeley/UCLA--Slight Reach to Reach
UCSD--Match to Slight Reach
UCSB/UCD/UCI--Match
UCSC/UCR--Safe Match
UCM--Safety

But if you could retake and get a SAT I score of around 1950 to 2050 (or more) then you chances would go up significantly at the better UCs.

Here are your chances then:

UCB/UCLA--Match to Slight Reach
UCSD-Match
All others Safe Matches and Safeties

So, retake your test by the deadline for the UCs.

Also, the same applies to many of the other schools--for example, Cornell, Stanford, Tufts, Rice and WUSL both touch you unless you get the scores up--but will consider you a great candidate with about a 2100 to 2200 SAT--or a 33 ACT.

Also, you need to realize that the 2s on your AP Chem and AP Language tests are hurting you at the top schools--so you should explain if there is a reason for these (like did you study the topics on your own--take it on a day when an uncle died--whatever the reason may be).

Oh, I should mention that Univ of Washington is probably a match right now--even with the 27 ACT.

Good luck.

Also, as far as other good pre-med schools you could get into with your stats (including the 27 ACT) consider Ohio State and Wisconsin--it's cold in these places--but the schools both have great pre-med programs.

Good luck.

sorry calcruzer. but correction:

I got a 4 on AP chem.

and on the day of the AP lang test i had an eye infection. So i was doing the test with one eye.

Where should I put this incident? In my essays?

Your ACT score is weak.

And no, don't write that story in your essays. Just makes you seem like whiny person trying to make excuses.

Don't waste your personal statement writing about your APs when APs aren't even that considered during the admissions process. You're pretty much good for the UCs, but it would be best if you could raise your ACT up to a 30+. USC is a match. Stanford is a long shot. Cornell would be best, again, if your ACT could go up to a 32~33. Washington University at St. Louis is a loose cannon so far as my friend's experiences show. I say you'd be competitive, but everything would seriously go a lot better for you if you brought up that standardized test score.

Also, have you considered Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, or George Washington U.? My friend says JHU accepts half of its med school's (ranked no. 2 behind Harvard) people from its undergrads, and the other two are pretty strong as well. GWU might be a bit pricey though (nation's highest tuition rate)

thanks guys. Bump just to get any more suggestions

What should i aim for the SATs? i get 2000s in practice tests

2100+ would be a good bet.
