UCs Check up on your EC ACTIVITIES?

do ucs, like ucla or berkeley, check up on all your extra activities, programs, awards, etc??

Is there a way they verify you did all these extra activities, clubs?

Thanks, I am just curious because my friend said they don't

UC audits a certain percentage of all applications, maybe 10%? It is random.

Thanks a lot that was really quick! :)

Sorry I don't mean to come off sounding dumb or anything,
but how do they audit applications??

Like some clubs I know don't even collect anything from members, just my name and email... and high school activities.. they ask high schools for transcripts and records?

I heard UCLA and UCB don't ask for high school transcript

Yeah many high schools (mine included) does a bad job keeping track of the clubs on campus. For small things like membership in NHS, colleges generally won't bother. Also, there are many ECs that are impossible to check up (say your worked at some small firm in China or whatever). However, my understanding is that they will check up on any major awards or leadership positions at school, certain volunteer work or internships, etc.

The UC's request grades (official transcript) from all students who accept their offer to attend. They even track spring semester grades and will rescind admissions based on grades. As to EC's, I don't know, but they certainly don't check much.

Yes, they randomly choose about 10% of the applicant pool and ask them to validate all that's on the application. This may include documentation, signatures, etc.

10% of the population pool..... do u know how many people that is! i have never heard about the 10 percent rule... but it seems like a LOT of work to me. think about it.

10% for, say, Berkeley is about 4,500 applications. Not too bad.

i doubt its 10% and im pretty sure privates do not do this unless something is very fishy or a very important EC is involved

it is not 10%. its about one out of every 500 or so.

What about other schools, namely Ivies?

Even if they do audit you, I didn't even know my clubs reported the roster sheet, or how long you've been in the club.

That CC article says 1 item from your app. So that shouldn't be too hard even with a large pool.

Yeah they wouldn't ask me to verify some EC I did for 2 weeks 3 years ago, would they? I doubt if the guy even remembers me.

O yeah 10 percent of 4,500 is 450. Lets take an average of 5 EC activities per applicant. Thats 2250 items to check in what a span of 3 months? yeah likely hood of ur item being checked is less than 1 percent. Ur item is most likely going to be checked when admission officers narrow down the pool and ur applicant is a tough decesion then most likely they will check it. Under than that no worries. How are they going to check if i was in the Red cross club during my freshmen year at high school??? however i dont encourage anybody to lie its a bad thing to do. But dont be modest, make ur resume fill up everything even if its a little thing it can tip admission officers in ur way.

No, they just check 1 item on your app. So in a pool of 4500, 10% would be 450, and it's just 1 item from that 450.

Same topic, kind of a different question.

Say you lie about one EC on your app. And one UC finds out, does that UC report what they find to all the other UCs?

Look, they're not going to check up on your debate club or jv soccer. They're worthless in the first place. If a school decides to verify your EC's, it would be the impressive ones, esp. if there is some sort of inconsistency. If the EC is truly impressive and if you didn't lie, then there should be no problem getting proof.

just dont lie glueEater! and if they only check 1 item then it defeats the purpose and it becomes a stroke of luck and the probablity of finding faulty information is also further reduced and chance of being caught and it is sad that people would like to get into college! and i would not risk it! i taught about it and its not worth it..... but trust me once u start writing ur resume u would find u wont have to lie cause u would be surprise of all u have done.

hey norcalguy wats a "truly impressive EC" ??
