Do they consider different applicant pools for each application period? Why do most people apply in fall? Why do the statistics usually just show fall? Just curious about how the system works. Thanks.

According to the University of California, openings for the winter and spring terms are very limited. They recommend talking to an Admissions Officer at the University you are interesting in attending, to determine whether the campus or paticular program is accepting applications for these terms.

Most people apply in the fall because most, if not all UC's consider this to be the prime application period. Some UC's, namely UC Berkeley, do not accept applications for any other term. You will hear of Spring Admits at Cal, but they are students who applied for the fall term, but could not be admitted due to space, or the fact they were borderline in terms of admission.

Honestly, I've only heard of the new UC campus, Merced, accepting applications for terms other than fall. I'm pretty sure other UC's accept applications for winter or spring, but you would have to check.

Filing period for Winter Quarter 2006 (except Berkeley and Merced): July 1-31, 2005
Filing period for Spring Quarter 2006: (except Berkeley and Merced) October 1-31 , 2005
Filing periof for Spring Semester (Merced) 2006: July 1-31, 2005

Best Bet: Apply for fall. Biggest application pool, More Space on Campus, and Better Chances of Acceptance (in my opinion).

Thanks for your help, IzzieBear. I was and am still planning to apply for Fall. I just wanted to know if there were any differences for each period such as majors, credits, etc.
