Hi everyone. I just had a conversation with a counselor at my college (smc) and she told me that UCs look at our cumulative gpa not our uc transferable gpa.. IS THAT TRUE? I just can't have faith in counselors at my school because they tell me differently everytime:/ I talked to several of uc reps and they all told me not to worry about non uc transferable courses. I know that they still look at grades I earn in non transferable courses but what I knew was that they focus on my uc gpa when making decisions. Does anyone have clear explanation about this? Please help me ):

if it’s not uc transferable then the grade doesnt count. wham bam

Yes. UCs do not officially consider non-transferable courses, and they will calculate a GPA for you that counts only your transferable courses.

However, they will see your non-transferable courses and grades. As the saying goes, you can’t unring a bell. If you have multiple F’s in, say, basic math and pre-algebra, it may cause a subconscious concern, but that’s a concern they can’t officially consider.

Thank you so much! but then why did the counselor tell me that UCs will consider my overall cumulative gpa instead of just UC transferable gpa? It bugs me haha…

one thing ive learned is to never trust a comm college counselor.

I’m with redoplease - community college counselors (for the most part, I know there are good ones out there) suck and give you contradictory information.

Oh haha that’s good to hear… I was shocked yesterday after I talked with my counselor haha thanks!
