UC's + OOS Big Names???

Ok, thanks. Have you thought about maybe the University of Miami?

Yeah, I had thought about Miami (FL). Great financial...at the time. Average debt at graduation: $31000 (...no thanks.) Hurricanes are an amazing natural wonder (to watch when no one gets hurt) and a cool nickname, but Miami is a little to close to hurricane country for my liking...thanks though.

Are you crazy?! Georgia has tons of babes as does Wisconsin and Wisconsin is the #1 party school in the nation. Yes that's right, it was ranked ahead of ASU.

Am I crazy...well people have been saying that for years. I like U Georgia, but it's a little too far (like U Miami) and if I go east, I'd like to go northeast. I'll think about it if it makes you happy. As for Wisconsin, OOS tuition is too high and living in CA has taught me something. California warm, Wisconsin cold. I don't think I'd get in to Wisconsin either. What do you think?

Na, I think you have a legit chance at Wisconsin. Although OOS is hard to get into, you have a great GPA, a great rank, and great work experience/EC's/volunteer/sports, etc.

I have a friend at penn state right now and he's loving it. He was sort of your opposite, did preatty well on SAT, but had alot of bad grades.(he was the type that only worked at what he was interested in) Thought overall you are the better looking applicant. I think that you should give it a chance as its a good school and you have a great chance @ acceptance.

I met a couple Pitt students when I was visiting carnegie mellon. They seemed really nice and overall liked the school. Its campus is beautiful, and I think they have some really good programs(I think that many lesser ranked schools have great writing programs, as teaching is a sweet gig for most writers.)

"If you're interested in business, Arizona has the #18 undergraduate business program in the entire US."

KingJames: Where can I find the rankings lists?

Yargg: Penn St. and Pitt are interesting, but don't interest me as much as staying in Calif. in the UC system. I guess if I go any farther OOS than Washington, Oregon, or Arizona, the school would need to have the "wow" factor.

Another thing. I'm getting a ton of positive feedback on my GPA/class rank/ work experience/comm service/EC's/sports/whatever elses. I'm a reach at UCB and UCLA and a match at UCD and UCSB. UCSD is a "slight reach" for me. Does my non-SAT accomplishments make up for my SAT's at UCSD? Gut feeling: accepted or rejected to UCSD?

buummmpppp...

www.usnews.com has rankings, but some will require a paid subscription.

I think UCSD will accept you. I think your GPA and ECs would compensate for your SATs. Good luck!

That's nice to hear For5aken, thanks. I've used usnews before (w/o paying...) and am mostly curious about the specialty listings for specific areas. KingJames, just post next time you're on, thanks. Anyone else?

Also, should I even bother looking into U Chicago and are there any in the Ivy League just for the hell of it? Thanks everyone.

Honostly, I dont think that with your scores you have much of a shot at them, but neither do many others.. some of whom may be there now. Super reaches like that are worth a try if you really, really want to go there... if deep down you know you want to go to one of those schools, go for it. The worst thing that could happen is a loss of $65 and a few hours.

Honestly, I don't want to go. I'm just curious for a place like Cornell (w/ something like 30% acceptance as opposed to the usuall 10% at most Ivies) Is U Chicago really that far out of my reach?

They are reaches based on SAT scores, but besides for that you are at least as good as their average student.

Batman32C, the business rankings require a subscription (which I don't have). The only way I knew is because last year my friend had the subscription, so he gave me the login info and stuff. Also, my school's library has the USNews 2005-2006 book which gives the top 50 undergraduate biz school rankings in it. If you have alot of interest in business, you should also look into Indiana University which has the #11 program in the US. Many years it makes the top 10...

Thanks KingJames. I'm not really interested in business (English/Creative Writing Type), I just wanted to look at lists for multiple subjects/programs. Maybe I'll subscribe to usnews or order the book from the site.

If you have a question about a college, I have the US News book with me now

Yargg, would you be able to tell me where the University of Florida and University of Minnesota rank in the undergraduate business rankings? Thanks alot.

Minnesota is tied with Cornell and Wisconsin-Madison for 14th and UF is 25th with Arizona, Case Western, and University of Washington.

Thanks alot. I didn't think Minnesota was that great, little bit of a shocker.

U.Penn(Wharton)

MIT(Sloan) - kind of surprised me

Berkley(Haas)
U. Mich.

NYU(Stern)

Carnegie Mellon(Tepper) - I was told by them that its #3, so who knows
UNC - Chapel Hill(Kenan-Flagler)
UT - Austin (McCombs)

USC (Marshall)
UVA (Mcintire)

Thats the top 10, it has individual sections like Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Finance, etc. If you have any more specific questions. I have a couple other books I can check through later... gotta finish an essay for an application now.
