UC's.. out of state- impossible?

and low gpa too : (

International student: (born in taiwan, studied all my life in bangkok, thailand)

Major: accounting

Varsity Volleyball 3 years (Most improve player for 2 years)

Basketball Club President
Chess Club Vice President

UC- San Diego

Irvine
Santa Barbara
Santa Cruz
State- San Diego State
Cal Poly Pomona

which schools are just wasting my application fees, and which ones do I actually have a chance?

Cloud007:

UCSD: Super Reach (out of state)
UCI: Reach (out of state)
UCSB: Reach (out of state)
UCD: Reach (out of state)
UCSC: Slight Reach (out of state)

ouch.
well heh.. at least it's not impossible right?
at least its still just a reach..
maybe they'd like an international for a change..
just trying to be optimistic : (

i think all the schools are reaches...
but if you do better on ur SATs,
i think UCSC might be a match.
SDS and cal poly i think you are PRETTY good chances.

go to a cal state

if you're goal is to go to California...
- San Diego State and CalPoly Pomona, CalPoly SLO are your safeties...
- UCSC, UCD, UCR are matches...

i got into UCI with a 3.3 and the same goes with 20 other people I know... but then again we're instate and we live in Irvine....

none of the UCs are matches except maybe Riverside. he barely meets the in-state GPA requirement to get into a UC, and his SAT is sufficient instate only for UCR, UCSC, UCI, maybe UCD. that is all instate.

matches will be cal states, come on there pretty good. or look at some of the private universities

Cal Poly SLO and SDSU are reaches as well. Avg. gpa for slo was a 3.9. For sdsu it's a 3.5. Add in the fact that the applicant is out-of-state, and these are pretty high reaches.

Matches- UCR, cal poly pomona, maybe UCSC

You need a 3.4 or above to be eligible if you're out of state in the UC system. Since the original poster said 3.3-3.4, hopefully he's in the 3.4 range, otherwise he'll be out of luck.
