UC's score choice - sending "all" SAT vs the highest score

I read that UC “recommends” sending all SAT scores so they can consider the highest scores for individual sections. This maybe reasonable for students with highest scores sections from different tests - do we still have to report all scores even if the highest section scores are from a single test?

DS’s situation:
SAT - test 1: EBRW/Math/Essay: 700/790/18
SAT - test 2: EBRW/Math/Essay: 780/800/21

For all colleges that allow score choice - he is just sending the test2 which has all favorable section scores and total score. For UC - he is confused - UC does not require but recommends all scores. The wording suggest that it is for them to give the max section score to the student - if that is the case why not allow students just report only the scores that are relevant? Any advice on whether to send both scores above or just test#2 as he is doing for all colleges?
TIA.

The website does not say “recommend.” It says “encourage.” https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/admission-requirements/freshman-requirements/exam-requirement/

The UCs do not require all scores, period. Send what you want. Don’t send what you don’t want to send, i.e. use Score Choice.

You report your highest SAT/ACT score on the application and UC’s do not superscore. You can send all, some or only one score. Up to you but will not be penalized for low scores.

@evergreen5 - thanks.
That is what we thought but this is the confusion: CollegeBoard’s score sending mentions that UC requires all scores to be sent. In sending scores, CB automatically comes with scores to be sent to a college based on the college policy - we can still unselect the scores we don’t want to send but wondering if this CB being behind UC’s policy OR are we missing something.

Score choice always selects all scores and then you uncheck the boxes for scores you don’t want sent, no matter what the college is.

Aside from that, College Board is often not up to date on what colleges’ test policies are (and of course is not the authority on what the UCs require).

The way the college board populates the SAT fields when you are sending the scores is very confusing. But you can uncheck the scores you don’t want to send. We sent all of my daughter’s scores. She took the test 3x. We self reported her highest score.

@hs2020dad - When sending the SAT scores to UC, make sure you select Choose Scores button. Then CB will automatically select the highest score for you to send (make sure to double check that). Also make sure to UNSELECT all other scores, including those SAT SUBJECT tests (unless you want to send them too).

In the UC Application, under section Test scores, the policy is clearly stated:

‘If you’ve taken a test more than once, report only your highest overall score from a single test date (Do not mix scores from different dates).’
