This is a hypothetical question since I'm only a sophomore.

4.00 UC GPA
PSAT predicted around 1880
(14 Semesters) of Honors and AP Classes
EC's - Tennis, Cross Country, Relay 4 Life, Sign Language Club, Vice President of CSF, Vice President of Key Club, Treasurer of Volleyball Club, Journalism, Recycling Club

Interested in UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, and SDSU

Your GPA, if you keep it up there, will help you a lot, as will your ECs. You will DEF. get into UCSB, UCI, and SDSU, unless they reject you based on yield protection [which basically means they think you're too good, and you'd deny addmittance because you got in somewhere better, so they don't want you to bring their %s down]

Your weakest points are your SATs. Work on those like freaking CRAZY over the summer and if you can break 2000, the UCs will be your safeties. Seriously, if you can keep everything you've listed here AND bring your SATs up, you have a great chance for college.

Also: just because you're already on the fast track to success, you should think about getting an internship over the summer. Not many entering Jrs think about that, and it looks UBERgood for EVERYTHING: college apps, job resumes, etc etc etc. Plus, it's a GREAT experience [speaking from experience] ESP. if you want to go into law/medicine/business. I want to go into law, and I interned in the Federal District Courthouse in LA, and I was the ONLY HSer there--you make a lot of connections and get a lot of respect from things like that, it's a great overall exp. Like, I met a lot of law students who helped me out with my plans for the future.

Also: If you want, you could get a job [it shows colleges that you can take on responsibility]. The internship, if its in your area of study, also shows that you're self-motivated and you know what you want: something that a lot of applicants are missing.

Next Year I plan on taking the PSAT again, and I also want to take the SAT twice...And I want to take it again Senior Year aswell....How many times did you take the SAT (Junior Year an Senior Year)....Also did you take the PSAT????

Don't take the SAT more than once if you can help it. If you really think you can improve, go ahead and retake, but in general it looks bad to the colleges when you keep retaking it, particularly if you don't improve much. I took the PSAT soph. and jr. year, and I got less than my actual SAT score [which was 2220] also keep in mind SAT IIs, which, if you do well, will help you.

About the retaking--don't be AFRAID to retake. I got a 690 on the Lit SATII, and I was SO dissapointed because I KNEW I could do better. I retook it, and with NO extra prep, I got a 760. So...if you know you can do better, retake it. If you tried your hardest and still didn't get it, don't retake it.

Thanks for the information...When I take the real SAT I know I will do much better...I'm hoping if I study for it (i didn't study for the PSAT) I will be able to break 2000...!!

(makemehappy)...what college do you plan on going to?

Well, I'm going to UCD and applying for their honors program, but if Reed College takes me off the waitlist [and if we can afford it, hahaha], then I'll go there.

And study!! Buy a "10 REAL SATs" book from the collegeboard and do them.
