UC's standards for senior grades: how low is too low?

did you report it yet? and what was your unweighted gpa? i got 3 b's and 2 c's

Does this apply to all applicants, or do they make exceptions? (ex: poor performance due to medical conditions, etc)

yeah i reported it. i got three c's, 2 b's, and an A. When you report it, there's a comment section where you can explain the reasons for your poor performance. I don't know what my unweighted gpa was, but my weighted was 3.26

hey whiteash, i was wondering if they had emailed you back yet after you reported it? if so, what did they say?

they say it'll take about 15 days before they reply. and when i logged onto to ucla admission site with my uc id and stuff, it says:

We received your recent communication regarding changes to your academic information and are currently reviewing your record. Upon completion, we will contact you to inform you of any status changes.

UCLA Undergraduate Admissions
and Relations with Schools

So let's hope i'm ok!

never said that for any of mine (the comment whiteash got). I told them i dropped a class in writing, but haven't heard. of course, I didn't apply to UCLA, but I got into 3/4 so far (waiting for cal)

I called UCSD today. They said they average the two semesters and it is 3.00 WEIGHTED.

what happens if you maintain a 3.0 GPA unweighted and you get a D in one of your classes? Will UC Irvine rescind you?

Bump;

I'm beginning to worry about this myself. For UCSD, are you SURE that they average the two semesters? I got a 3.83 last semester, but my grades are REALLY low right now, in two of my classes. My only A's are in Calc and TA (damn, but TA doesn't count towards the GPA). I might possibly be pushing a 2.80 GPA this semester...I'm not sure. Senioritis really rules/kills, doesn't it. Aha.

whiteash, any reply yet?

Good students wouldn't lower their GPA below 3.0 their senior year.
P.S.: I have 4.67 GPA my senior year and still got denied from UCSD

lalalouielala, I notified ucla about my grades, and when I signed onto the UCLA login site a few days later, the page changed from "congratulating my acceptance" to "reviewing my grade changes."

And then just last week when I logged on again, it showed the congratulations letter again.

Soooo I don't know if that was a good sign or not. Yeah, I got a few C's but no D's or F's. What were your senior fall grades?

It's a bit funny how we're all worried about grades dropping too low.

I'm hovering near 3.0 unweighted myself (for UCLA).

Impressive. I said I had gotten a 3.83 my first semester...which is a 4.6 weighted (with UC weighting system, because one of my classes isn't counted).

So...I don't understand what this "good students" business is about, and I don't understand the point of putting in so much effort into our last semester of high school if it is so trivial. Why'd I put some effort into my first semester? Simple: Midyear reports for private schools. Perhaps the reason why I got in and you didn't is because I exhibited a more "readiness" for college? Who knows. Just because you may have done well in high school and I might not have performed as well as you...does not necessarily determine how we will perform in college. Other factors were at stake: SAT scores, college courses taken, essays, whatever.

Perhaps I am just overly sensitive/bitter/cynical. I apologize.

I am not talking about putting effort. It's jut that if you managed to get into UCLA and then have problem with GPA lower than 3.0, something is wrong with student.
P.S.: I know a person who got into UCLA with major Physics, but got 1 in AP Physics B exam

Irbis, so?

10char

I've been curious about this myself. My academic classes are AP Biology (counts as two grades btw..how's that work) AP Calc (not good at math) and AP lit. Would they penalize me for a C in AP Bio, especially after I took it pass/fail first semester? (I don't think I'll have to worry about getting a C for a final grade, but you never know...)

anything yet whiteash?

i just got back a letter. it says i have to maintain at least a 3.2 unweighted for this semester. which is fine i suppose, i'm just relieved!

So you got accepted to UCSD and planned to go there but then they rescinded your admission or what?. Can you explain more about your condition? Since I'm planning to go to UCSD in the fall 2006, I don't anything to go wrong and ended up not going anywhere. Last semester I got a 4.8 but what was the reason that they declined your admission, I'm a little bit confuse. Do you know why we have to send in an official transcipt, is it because they want to see our senoir grade only or to verify what we put on our application. My friend told me that when they were doing a reviewing process for our UC application they already looked at our trascript by requesting our schools to send them so there is no false inf. but on the application is this trues?. Sorry for the long post.
