UC's, UVA, and UNC

Hi, I'm a senior from California (a potential Poli Sci or IR major) who would like to know his chances at UCB, UCLA, UCSD, University of Virginia, and University of North Carolina.

GPA: 3.6 (UW) / 3.82 (UC) / 4.1 (High School) - My UC GPA looks low because the system only gives extra credit for a total of eight honors and AP semesters taken during sophomore and junior years, while I had taken a grand total of 16 semesters.

Class Rank: 30 / 601

SAT I: 710 (M) / 730 (V)

SAT II: 640 Writing / 650 Math IC / 740 US History - Retaking Math and Writing in November. I anticipate scores above 700 for both tests.

AP's: I took European History sophomore year (got a 4 on the test) and took English Language (5), US History (4), Chemistry (4), and Calculus AB (4) during my junior year. This year, I am taking AP Statistics, Biology, Psychology, and English Literature.

Honors Courses: Freshman year, I took Honors Biology and Literature. Sophomore year, I took Honors Chemistry, Pre-Calculus, and World Literature. This year, I am taking Honors American Government, because AP Government was not offered.

EC's: I have been a devoted member of Academic Decathlon, the Computer Club, Chess Club, and the California Scholarship Federation since freshman year. I have been Treasurer for Academic Decathlon and Vice President of Computer Club.

Volunteering: I spent some time this summer at a local convalescent center and created strong relationships with many patients and employees there. Through my experiences there, I have left myself a great deal of things important to me to discuss in my essays.

Please! Someone Help Me!

Chances:

UCB...Reach/Match
UCLA...Reach/Match
UCSD...Match/Safety
UVA...Reach/Match
UNC-Chapel Hill...Reach/Match

Hope this helps. I would suggest adding UWisconsin-Madison, UMichigan, UIllinois-UC. Good luck.

Anymore comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I guess you should be a match for UC schools since you're in-state.
As for UVa and UNC-CH, I would say 50/50. Perhaps a slightly more
difficult for UNC just because their portion of out-of-staters is smaller
than that of UVa. Basically, out-of-state chances at these two schools
are very comparable to chances at mid-Ivy schools such as UPenn and Cornell, maybe
even harder to get in. Why don't you do ED/EA to one of those Ivy colleges
first? Any special reason to consider public schools only?

Well, I never thought I would be accepted by an Ivy. I am not willing to apply Early Decision to any school, so do you (or anyone else) have in mind some private schools that would be statistical matches for me, even if I applied regular decision?

i can assure u that Ivy is easier to get into than UVA or UNC-CH out of state
my older brother had a 1450 on his SAT 750s+on SAT II too much EC and all APs available and aside from english and was not accepted to UVA even being the legacies we are (all on father's side went...three uncles who were professors...one who was a dean)

Let's get this straight then: I'm not applying to UVA, UNC, or the Ivies. So what are some good private schools that would be a match for me?

Some suggestions:

URochester
Vanderbilt
Bucknell
Tulane
Case Western
Carnagie Mellon
Boston University
Trinity College
Hamilton College
Colorado College
UColorado-Boulder
Colby College
Bates College

Just a few to help you get started...although you could apply to Cornell ED.

Hope this is of use.

Might try Duke-reach. Also Holy Cross and Colgate both matches/safeties. Might qualify for merit aid at a school like Holy Cross.
