UCs VPA Requirement question

Hello All,
I am planning to take AP Studio Art 2D in my senior year to fulfill my Visual and Performing Art requirement for UCs. I looked at the website for UCs and it says that “UC-transferable college courses or satisfactory scores on AP or IB exams can also be used to fulfill the visual and performing arts subject requirement.” Does this mean I have to pass the AP exam for AP Studio Art in order for the class to fulfill the requirement? What if I get an A in the class but get a 1 or 2 on the exam?

Either pass the class or pass the exam. If you do both, no worries. Many applicants may not have access to VPA class at their HS, so they could self study and take the AP exam to fulfill the requirement.
