My son seems to remember reading somewhere in the UC application process that if you do not get into the schools you apply to, that thay may accept you at a UC you did not apply to...is this true? Does anyone know if this really occurs...are there some UC's that do not fill up their freshman class?

Your son is correct. UC-eligible applicants* who are not accepted at any of the campuses to which they applied are placed in the “Referral Pool” and placed at a campus that has space. The two campuses they are referred to are Merced and Riverside. Sometimes other campuses will also contact referral pool applicants with offers of admission (UCSC).

*To be UC-eligible:
-At least a 3.0 UC GPA
-Complete all required A-G courses
-Take the SAT or ACT plus two SAT subject tests (this requirement will change in the future, eliminating the subject tests)
-Graduate from high school

Thanks so much!!
