im worried i wont get in my gpa is a 3.6 weighted and a 21 act im soooooo scared
what schools do i have a chance in?
can i still get into the top ones with a very well written personal statement???

Your 21 ACT will take you out of the running for any school except Merced and Riverside. No written statement can override that score, sorry to say. Have you considered a Cal State? You might be able to get into SDSU or SLO, depending on your major.

Note that you also need two SAT IIs. You need to do calculations for your a-g courses for second and third year to determine your actual GPA for UC eligibility and convert ACT score and SAT IIs to UCs numbering system for eligibility. Go here and see how it is done and if you meet eligibility (for which you need that GPA plus your ACT score plus your two SAT II scores to do the calculation):

If you are a Cal resident and meet the eligibility threshold that means that you most likely will get into a UC but not necessarily those with the higher middle 50% ranges and your 21 ACT is very low for UCLA, Berkeley or UCSD and is not likely to be made up with an outstanding essay but nothing is impossible. In other words, if you meet the eligibility threshold and are in-state make sure you include Riverside, Merced, others in the ones you are applying to. If you do not meet the eligibility threshold, make sure you are applying to schools other than the UCs because you are unlikely to be admitted.

An essay won’t help you much for UCs, sorry. They essentially throw out a lot of applications that don’t fit into the ranges they need to see.
