What kind of ACT score do you need for an out of state applicant to any of the UCS?

What kind of ACT score do you need for an out of state applicant to any of the UCS?

What kind of GPA?

This is a little sketchy, and the boundaries aren't too concrete here. But in my opinion I would say the top tier UC's (LA & Cal) out-of-state are comparable to Northwestern; UCSD o.o.s. comparable to Cal in-state; UCI/UCD/UCSB o.o.s. comparable to UCSD in state; UCR/UCM/UCSC o.o.s. comparable to UCI in state.

That being said, the UC's are tough to gauge o.o.s. b/c they have to take a lot of CA kids no matter what (as they are state sponsored). Because of this, even applicants w/ top stats can't consider UC's absolute safeties.

A 4.0 weighted GPA & maybe a 29 ACT would make you competitive for a spot in the UC program as an out-of-state. If you are looking at UCLA/UCB, I would think you should be in the ballpark of 3.8+ UW GPA & 32 ACT.

That being said, your chances are much better w/ a 33,34,35, etc, so it really is the higher the better. If I recall you need to have at least 3.5 GPA (not sure if this is weighted or unweighted) to apply to UC schools as an o.o.s. student.

Everything I have told you are guidelines. I'm sure there are o.o.s. kids applying to Cal w/ a 4.0 UW & 33 ACT that are rejected & kids w/ a 3.6 UW & 27 ACT that are accepted. You never know.

That being said, I think the UC's are not worth the o.o.s. trouble. If you want to come to Cali, try these schools instead:

If you are looking at Cal/UCLA, try:
-Stanford
-Caltech
-All of the Claremont colleges

If you are looking at UCSD:
-Claremont Colleges

If you are looking at "lower" UC's:
-Lower tier Claremont colleges
-Occidental
-Others...sorry I'm sleepy. :)

But if you're set on a UC go for it. One cool thing is you can apply to as many UC's as you want w/ one application, so if you're interested give it a whirl and see what your options are.

Best of luck to you!

What about an unweighted of like a 3.5, and an ACT of like a 30?
