There are couple of people on this cite acting like real dictators. They want to manipulate every single thread with their "Brilliant" ideas

3.99 and UCSB is your first choice? o.O?

yeah it's my first choice. I know it sounds unusual but I really want to party all throughout college. And I love UCSB's environment.

UCSB is dope.

hey jacecwong..are you hot?

So far, I've received offers of admission from UCSB and UCSC. Now, I have all of this month and the next to wait for UCB, UCLA, and UCI to get back to me.

Major: Philosophy
GPA: 3.5

of Transferable Units: 64 w/ IGETC satisfied.

Now, I applied to UCSB because the campus and its location seemed to be almost surreal--I don't think any other university features a lagoon in addition to proximity to the Pacific--the philosophy program is good, and it seems to be in the middle range of selectivity as far as UCs go.

After perusing these boards, I've got the impression that it has a reputation as a party school. It's not the UC equivalent to Chico State, right? That would pretty much be a nightmare for me. I'd appreciate it if a current student could get back to me on how work and play balance out on campus.

In general the UC's will be calmer than the cal states.

Funny thing, I went to CSUSB to visit a friend and as I was driving along I see two students cars in different locations being pulled over by the cops. One car was stopped for drunk driving (the bottles were lined up on the sidewalk) and some other guy had like 6 or 7 people riding in a single cab truck. Spring break apparently makes the students go crazy.

No, Chico is a dump. Santa Barbara (yes, IV included) is much, much nicer.

Although I'm not a current student, my sister graduated from UCSB last year, and I have lots of friends that live in Isla Vista (go to SBCC). Pretty much, you should do all your studying in the daytime and then do your partying at night. The best nights are usually Thurs-Sat. What a lot of people don't realize is that you can get studying done in a party school atmosphere, just do it morning - late afternoon when the parties aren't going on to distract you.

Thanks for the replies. I really didn't expect them this soon ... guess I'm too used to the idea of wating for lengthy periods of time thanks to UCLA and UCB.

Also, the only reason I view Chico negatively is it's been a top party school for over three decades and seems to have an exceedingly easy admissions process. Over here--Shasta College--if you complete the CSU breadth requirements with at least a 2.00 GPA, you're GUARANTEED a spot at Chico (I'll just go to Chico" is like a mantra in Shasta's halls). A school that basically tells you that you are more likely to be struck down by lighting in a rubber suit than get a rejection letter from them turns me off. Anyone can just drift through a CCC.

Philosophy major.. nice.. I talked to a philosophy professor of myne who went to SB. He suggested I go there because of the atmosphere. He did his undergrad and grad over there. A real good professor and a good guy.

"No, Chico is a dump. Santa Barbara (yes, IV included) is much, much nicer."

Isla Vista is not nice in my opinion. And yes, Santa Barbara is the "party school" of the UCs--it also is the least diverse.

Who said the SB philosophy program is good?

So I'm doing a TAA agreement with SB and online it said Decision Pending still. Should I be worried? Why havn't I been accepted yet?

"Why havn't I been accepted yet?"

They saw you pick your nose and they don't like nose pickers.
J/K.
They probably have alot of apps and yours happens to be on the bottom. Who knows, really. Your not alone in your wait.

Hey gabe, this is my last post.

NOTE From CollegeMom: I deleted the rest of the post. It's your last post? You got it!

I'm not a "regulator," staiolz, although I do feel a responsibility to prevent baseless information from spreading on here.

Those rankings are for graduate programs; information on the site even says the rankings are not useful for undegrads.

In the post above I was obviously stating an opinion on something that you can't quantify very well. Obviously everyone will have different opinions about a "party school" and what makes a particular school one.

And my post was not intended to attack you, as is obvious. There is nothing to say that you don't know a good philosophy professor who went there! Nor is there anything to say that SB isn't a good school; I think the fact it's the "party school" of the UCs shows how amazingly strong the UC system is.

Hey come on man. Thats not called for.

Gabe calls it like he sees it and he's proved to be a reliable sourse of info time and time again.

Thanks Matt, his post will be redacted because of the College Confidential Terms of Service.

Yeah exactly, so why did you say "where did you hear it was a good program?" There are no official rankings for undergrads. Regardless I wanted that to be my last post, about this. And you also proved to me that "you feel responsible" on this board. I'm not going to waste any more time talking about this, I felt like something needed to be said. I differ on how you feel statistics are the overall authority to all that holds true. You can live your life like that. And by the way this is an acceptance thread, I was hoping for it to showcase some of the accepted students to UCSB. Is there a place immune to your thoughts where I can do that? Too bad I can't use this board then.
